👍Johns Hopkins Technology Venture (JHTV) visited Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital to discuss potential collaborations in clinical trials and digital health.

This visit served as part of a global networking effort aimed at assessing the technology capabilities and innovative potential of Korean biotech companies, while identifying opportunities for joint research and clinical trials.

The two organizations plan to develop concrete roadmaps for joint projects and technology transfer moving forward.

👍Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital has once again been recognized as one of the world’s leading cancer hospitals by a global medical evaluation agency for the sixth consecutive year.

In the Newsweek “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026” ranking, the hospital was placed 140th worldwide in oncology (cancer treatment). Among national university hospitals in Korea, only two medical institutions made the list: Seoul National University Hospital and Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital.

Of the hospitals in Korea, only 14 were ranked within the global top 300. Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital placed 8th nationally and stood out as the only hospital outside the Seoul metropolitan area to make the list.

🇲🇳2025 Medical Korea in Mongolia!

Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital participated in the “2025 Medical Korea in Mongolia”(Sep. 22 ~ Sep. 24) in Ulaanbaatar, successfully promoting the excellence of Korean healthcare!

Hosted by the Korean Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), we held 1:1 business meetings with local agencies and medical professionals interested in Korean medical services.

It was a meaningful time to introduce the specialized cancer treatment system of Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital.

🎉Three medical institutions of the Gwangju Regional Council of Medical Tourism - Chonnam National University Hospital (CNUH), Chosun University Hospital (CSU), and Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) - participated in the “Busan International Medical Tourism Convention 2025” held at BEXCO, Busan, from September 5 to 6, 2025.

👍Three tertiary hospitals operated a promotional booth to promote medical tourism in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region and organized events for visitors. In addition, they held business meetings with a total of eight overseas buyers from various countries including Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, and Bangladesh.

🎉 🎊Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) has been selected as the lead research institution for the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s 2025 Core R&D Initiative, “Establishment and Development of a Digital Bio Smart Clinical Support Platform.”

This project will span three years from 2025 to 2027, with a total budget of 17.6 billion won. Through the K-HOPE project, the hospital plans to build a digital -based precision clinical trial system.

The core goal of this initiative is to transform the national strategic asset, the human biobank, and integrate it with artificial intelligence (AI) to identify personalized treatment strategies for individual patients.

CNUHH has accumulated cancer patient samples, genetic data, and the treatment information from over 40,000 patients over the past 15 years. Leveraging this extensive data pool, the hospital plans to develop a system that can predict the most effective treatment for each patient — even those with the same type of cancer — based on genetic and immune profiles.

🎉 Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) has once again proven its status as a world-class cancer treatment center. The hospital ranked 30th among 125 medical institutions in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of Oncology in the “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2025 - Asia-Pacific” list, announced by the U.S. news magazine Newsweek.

This places the hospital among the top-ranked institutions out of 22 hospitals in Korea and marks the highest ranking among non-metropolitan hospitals. Notably, it received the second-highest ranking following Seoul National University Hospital among national university hospitals.

🎊 The knee joint team from the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, consisting of Professors Seon Jong-Keun and Yang Hong Yeol, was recently awarded the Prize for Academic Achievement at the 22nd Spring Academic Conference of the Korean Society of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine for Locomotor System.

The award-winning paper, titled “Comparative Efficacy of Exosomes Derived from Different Mesenchymal Stem Cell Sources in Osteoarthritis Models: An In Vitro and Ex Vivo Analysis’, presents an innovative cell therapy strategy for the treatment of osteoarthritis. This study was recognized for its outstanding achievements in cutting-edge regenerative medicine research.

🎉Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) has become the first medical institution in the Honam region to adopt the state-of-the-art automated chemotherapy preparation robot, KIRO Oncology, establishing a highly precise and safe cancer treatment system.

The newly introduced chemotherapy preparation robot is a precision automation system currently in use at 34 medical institutions worldwide, including in the Unites States and Spain. Equipped with dual robotic arms, it can precisely prepare extremely small doses of-as little as 0.25mL-making it particularly optimized for personalized treatments such as pediatric cancer patients.

🎊Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital (CNUHH) recently surpassed 2,000 cases of Da Vinci robot-assisted surgeries, marking a new milestone in the advancement of regional healthcare.

By specialty, Urology accounted for 74% (1,588 cases) of all robotic surgeries, followed by General Surgery (23%), Thoracic Surgery (2%), and Obstetrics & Gynecology (1%).

CNUHH, which has been at the forefront of addressing healthcare disparities through active use of digital healthcare technologies, is now being recognized for its robotic surgery achievements as a major turning point in elevating the standard of regional healthcare.

🎉 Professor Hwang Eu Chang from the Department of Urology at Chonnam National University Hwasun Hospital has contributed as a lead author to the 13th edition of Campbell-Walsh-Wein Urology is widely recognized as the most authoritative and comprehensive textbook in the field of urology worldwide.

In this latest edition, Professor Hwang contributed to the section on kidney cancer, his area of expertise.

Professor Hwang has published over 200 papers in SCI-indexed international journals on urologic oncology, earning recognition for his active research and writing. He is also a founding member of the Korean GRADE Network and the Korean Society for Evidence-Based Medicine, contributing significantly to the advancement of evidence-based medicine in Korea.
