The total number of medical tourists that visited Korea in 2014 amounts to 266,501 patients, which is a 26.2% increase compared to last year. The average annual increase rate of foreign patients in Korea since 2009 is 34.7%, telling that foreign tourist’s visits for medical purposes are getting increased steadily.

Since 2009 when Korean medical tourism was launched in earnest, the number of foreign patients during the 6 year period amounts to 901,470 : 60,201 in 2009, 81,789 in 2010, 122,297 in 2011, 159,464 in 2012, 211,218 in 2013, and 266,501 in 2014. The average hospitalization period of patients is 13.6 days and the gender ratio of foreign patients shows 39.7% for male and 60.3% for female, meaning more female patients are visiting Korea to receive medical treatment.

Foreign patients visit from 191 nations. China takes up a large portion in Korean medical tourism followed by the US, Japan and Mongolia.

Foreign patients’ frequent requests are like this: internal medicine, check-up, dermatology, gynecology, orthopedics and general surgery.

Dental Implant Steps.

Often, steps 1 and 2 can be done at the same time but not always. It goes on a case by case basis. You may or may not need a bone graft as well depending on the amount of bone available in the implant location.

Step 1: the implant is buried under the gum, flush to the bone. In essence, the implant is replacing the tooth root. After a healing period of at least 3 months, the implant will be healed and fused to the gum and bone.

Step 2: Dentist connects a post (abutment). The gum is allowed to heal around the abutment. This can often be done at the same time as Step 1.

Step 3: After the healing period, an E-Max crown is placed on the abutment. These kinds of crowns are used as they best match with your own natural teeth. The transparent colour and lifelike shape ensures that it is unlikely to be noticed among your own natural teeth. There is no metal alloy base with these crowns which means no unsightly looking grey line around the gum line. They are strong, long lasting and unlikely to crack or fracture as compared to many other types of crowns.
