Some people lack self-control. A habit of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time is one example. But now, scientists have developed a way of improving a person's self-control through electrical brain stimulation. This is according to a study published in The Journal of Neuroscience.

Electrical brain stimulation may one day be used to treat patients with disorders such as OCD, after a study has shown the procedure can enhance brain areas linked to self-control.

Acute kidney injury, in which the kidneys suddenly stop working properly, is a potentially severe condition that often follows major surgery and causes serious complications for patients. Now for the first time, researchers show that treatment with ultrasound beforehand can help prevent the problem in mice.

A new study appears to confirm that when you eat is just as important for health as what and how much you eat.

US researchers asked men to complete questionnaires about what they ate and when they ate it, then tracked their health for 16 years. Those who said they skipped breakfast were found to have a higher risk of heart attack or fatal coronary heart disease.

Professional men who in questionnaires said they skipped breakfast had a 27% higher risk of heart attack or death from coronary heart disease than those who said they did not.

علم الأشعه (Radiology)

يعني الإشعاع في الفيزياء أصدار الطاقة من جسم أو عنصر والتي تخترق أو تمر من أجسان أخرى، ويجري امتصاصها في النهاية من جسم آخر.والطاقة تكون على شكل موجات مؤينة أو موجات كهرومغناطيسية ( مثل الموجات الراديوية، أشعة تحت الحمراء، الضوء المرئي والأشعة فوق البنفسجية والأشعة السينية)أو رشعاع صوتي. والطاقة تشع عاذة وتنتشر في جميع الإتجاهات.لقد اكتشف الأشعة السينية العالم الفيزيائي الألماني رونتغن، ولكن الاستعمال الطبي يعود إلى ماري كوري وزوجها بيير كوري ١٨٩٩.
وعلم الأشعة هو ذلك الفرع من الطب الذي يختص باستعمال الأشعة في الطب بما فيها التشخيص والعلاج . وتستخدم في التشخيص الأشعة السينية( أشعة إكس) وأشعة غاما، والنظائر المشعة وأشكال أخرى من الأشعاع في تصوير الكسور والأورام وشذوذات الأعضاء الأخرى للجسم. ويركز التصوير المقطعي المحوسب على تصوير مقاطع من الجسم . والتصوير بالرنين النغناطيسي يركز على تصوير دقيق وتشخيص لأمراض الجسم، وتستعمل الأشعة السينية وأشعة غاما في علاج بعض الأمراض واليود المشع يستخدم في علاج الغدة الدرقية.ويقسم طب الأشعة إلى:
١- الأشعة التشخيصية والتي تشمل تصوير جميع أعضاء الجسم وتصور الثدي والصور الملونة بالمواد الظليلة
٢- الطب النووي ويشمل استخدام النظائر المشعة في التشخيص
٣- الأشعة العلاجية وتستخدم الإشعاع المركز على العضو المصاب مثل السرطانات والأورام.

WHAT'S MRI ? AND HOW IT WORKS?

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a method of imaging the interior of structures noninvasively. An MRI device consists of a magnet, magnetic gradient coils, an RF (radio frequency) transmitter and receiver, and a computer that controls the acquisition of signals and computes the MR images. The full name, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging, usually shortened to MRI, describes the technique. If an atomic Nucleus is exposed to a static Magnetic field, it Resonates when a varying electromagnetic field is applied at the proper frequency. An Image is computed from the resonance signals of which the frequency and phase (timing) contain space information. MRI is important because it is noninvasive, safe, and yields information that cannot be obtained with any other techniques. Its most common use by far is in diagnostic medicine but MRI has other applications, particularly in the oil and food industries1
