The symptoms of a UTI during pregnancy are definitely something to look out for according to a new study. https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/988483

The article included comments from lead author Jian-Rong He, DPhil, Division of Birth Cohort Study, Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, Guangzhou, China who explained the findings:

"...."suggest that maternal urinary and ge***al tract infections during pregnancy are associated with a higher risk of childhood leukemia in offspring,"... However, he added that "the associated absolute risk remained small given the rarity" of the disease….“Given that little is known about the etiology of childhood leukemia," these results "suggest an important direction for research on the etiology of childhood leukemia as well as development of potential preventive measures,""

Maternal urinary and ge***al tract infections during pregnancy appear to markedly increase the risk for leukemia in offspring, warn researchers in a large-scale analysis of Danish registry data.

This article summarises a recent study on using mobile phones to help calm your child. The study explains that automatically handing a phone to a child as a method to calm them down prevents the child from having a chance to work through their feelings themselves and self-regulate their emotions.

While using the mobile phones or media from time to time is okay, the study notes, it should not be a normal occurrence as this is truly when dysregulation and rapid shifts in their moods can take place.

Regularly using a mobile device as a calming strategy for your child could lead to worse behavioral challenges down the road.

Today is International Childhood Cancer Day. At Integra, we join in with supporting efforts to raise awareness and increase education on childhood cancer.

Cancer in children is rarely due to environmental factors or lifestyle choices but mainly changes in cell DNA either before birth or in early childhood.

In children (0-14 years), the two main types of cancer are leukemia and brain cancer:

- Leukemia (cancers of the bone marrow and white blood cells) can present with: bone and joint pain, tiredness, weakness, pale skin, bleeding or bruising, fever, weight loss and other symptoms.

- Brain tumors can cause: headaches, nausea, vomiting, blurred or double vision, dizziness, trouble walking or handling objects, and other symptoms.

Fortunately, most children (more than 80%) with cancer today survive because of high quality clinical treatment trials and centralization of care in childhood cancer.

However, despite these great advances, cancer remains the 2nd largest cause of death in children, after accidents.

Increasing education on childhood cancer, regular checkups and contacting your physicians for any concerns (particularly if you child has a higher chance of developing a cancer, due to certain genes) is important in helping with early intervention and greater awareness of this disease.
