Silent treatment isn’t “space”… it’s emotional withdrawal.
And in a couple, it can feel like punishment.
When one person shuts down, the other starts overthinking:
“Did I do something wrong?”
“Am I not worth an answer?”
Healthy distance can be loving.
But silence used to control, avoid, or hurt creates insecurity, not peace.
If you need a break, say it:
“I’m overwhelmed. I need time. I’ll come back to talk.”
Because love needs communication.
Not disappearance.
