Humm’s intention for this New Year and mission is to share more of the ancient practices rooted in tradition, while making them accessible and relevant for modern life.
Salutations to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.
Salutations and prostrations to Adi Nath (Lord Shiva), the first teacher of Hatha Yoga.
As part of Swami Sivananda’s Integral Yoga, the yoga of little, little, we practice daily:
Asana, Pranayama, chanting, selfless service, and meditation.
Pranayama is the bridge between body, breath, and mind. It is the bridge between Bahiranga (Outer) and Antaranga (inner) Yoga.
The breath is directly connected to the nervous system. When breathing is shallow and rushed, the body remains in a state of alert and stress. When the breath is slow, steady, and conscious, it activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the body’s natural state of rest, healing, and restoration.
Through pranayama, we gently guide the nervous system out of fight-or-flight and into balance. As the breath becomes calm, the mind follows. This is why pranayama prepares us for meditation: a regulated breath steadies the fluctuations of the mind and teaches us awareness rather than reaction. Breath becomes a tool for mind management, grounding us in the present moment.
Don’t skip Savasana.
Savasana is not simply lying down, it is the practice of conscious relaxation. After asana, the body needs time to absorb the effects of movement, allowing the nervous system, muscles, and breath to fully integrate the practice.
As we are conditioned to stay in constant motion, and we forget how to truly rest, Savasana teaches us how to slow down, let go, and be still without effort. In this state of deep rest, healing occurs, tension releases, and the body learns safety. Learning to relax is a skill—and savasana is where we relearn it.
Your energy is sacred.
Surround yourself with people who love you and uplift you.
Healing is a long, non-linear process.
Be gentle. Be patient.
Start the good life right from today and fight from now. Do not procrastinate.
Love and light ✨🙏🏻
