CHALAZION
A chalazion is a red bump on your eyelid. It is sometimes called an eyelid cyst or a meibomian cyst. It slowly forms when an oil gland (called a meibomian) becomes blocked.
Your eyelid has tiny glands that produce an oily substance to help keep your eyes moist. When one of those glands gets blocked, you can wind up with a chalazion, a swollen, pain-free gland. Usually you can treat a chalazion at home.
SYMPTOMS
It usually develops as hard and painless nodule. On occasionally it may get superinfected (stye) and cause pain and redness of the eyelid. It may also be accompanied by purulent discharge.
PREVENTION
✓Undertake proper eyelid hygiene, carrying out an eyelid massage and cleaning the base of the eyelashes properly with specific wet wipes.
✓It is important to remove your make-up (like mascara and eyeliner) as it affects the are of these glands
TREATMENT
✓Chalazion usually goes away by themselves, so occasionally treatment is not required. However, treatment consist of a eyelid massage with the application of heat and specific wet wipes.
✓In events that it presents itself as a stye, you must use antibiotics and anti-inflammatory ointment. only in very exception cases it is necessary to take oral antibiotics
✓In a case of persistent, cyst like lesion that cause bother or are not aesthetically pleasant to the patient, surgical removal will be required.
