Society often places mothers under the pressure of being the “perfect mother” — balancing work, childcare, household responsibilities, and emotional support for the family. This invisible “second shift”, along with expectations of self-sacrifice and constant caregiving, can lead to burnout, anxiety, and maternal guilt.
At the same time, motherhood is often romanticized as effortless and joyful, overlooking the exhaustion, lack of self-care, and emotional demands many mothers face.

Recognizing these expectations is an important step toward challenging the norms that place unfair burdens on women. This Women’s Day, we celebrate women’s strength, resilience, and their right to define motherhood on their own terms. 🌷

Swipe to the final slide to learn how we can support mothers and help break these norms.

Women in the workplace often face unequal treatment and career opportunities earning lower wages, biased career opportunities, pressure to stay silent about harassment, and the burden of balancing professional and family responsibilities. Many women continue to stay silent and are afraid to speak up even in the face of unfair treatment.

Bringing awareness and changing the narrative around these challenges is an important step toward building safer, fairer, and more inclusive workplaces.

Swipe to the final slide to learn how we, as a community, can support and empower working women. 🧡

Social expectations have often placed women in roles of self-sacrifice, obedience, and primary caregiving within marriage and family life. Recognizing these norms is an important step toward challenging them and creating a more equal and supportive society. This Women’s Day, we celebrate women’s strength, resilience, and right to choose their own path. 🌷

To learn how we as a community can support women and help break these norms, swipe to the final slide.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and many roles women carry every day l as leaders, caregivers, professionals, daughters, partners, and friends.

Yet behind this strength, many women silently hold emotional labour, expectations, and stress.
At Kalyana Sri Lanka, we believe that when we give support, understanding, and opportunity, we all gain a healthier, more compassionate society.

💬 Give time to listen
💛 Give encouragement
🛟 Give safe spaces to speak
🧠 Give access to mental health support
⚖️ Give equal opportunities at home and at work

When women are supported, their wellbeing grows and so does the wellbeing of our communities.

This Women’s Day, let’s ask ourselves:
How can we support the mental wellbeing of the women around us?

In our last post, we talked about managing news-related stress.
Here’s the science behind it.

The brain’s Amygdala acts as a threat detection system. When we encounter fear-related stimuli - including alarming headlines or distressing global events - this region becomes highly active and signals the brain to enter a stress-response state.

In a world of constant updates, that system can be triggered again and again with a click or a scroll.
Understanding this response is the first step toward consuming information more mindfully.

The news cycle doesn’t pause.
But you can.

Overexposure to information increases uncertainty - and uncertainty fuels anxiety.
Be intentional about what you consume, when you consume it, and where it comes from.
Staying aware should not cost you your peace.
