Soon after the stroke!

Stroke symptoms come on very suddenly, and in some cases immediate medical attention might be delayed due to location or other factors, so here are minor tips which can be useful for the affected person.

Check Response: by asking the person his or her name,if one has had a stroke they may not be able to talk, so grasp both hands and ask them to squeeze,if he or she responds ,they are conscious if not, he or she is probably unconscious.

Check Airways:open the mouth and check the upper airway that is visible to be sure its clear of foreign material. If not position the person in a recovery position.

Check for Breathing:
Tilt the head by lifting the person's chin
Look if you can see the rise and fall of the person's chest.
Listen for the person's breadth.
Feel for the breadth on your cheeks
If the person is not breathing, give CPR

For an unconscious person:
Lie the person down with their head and shoulder raised and supported(using either a pillow or cushion).
Keep them at a comfortable temperature.
Loosen any tight clothing.
Wipe out any secretions from the mouth.
Make sure the airway is clean.
Assure the person that help is on the way.

RECOVERY POSITION
If the affected person becomes unconscious, place the person in the recovery position as described below, to prevent any thing like blood, saliva or even their tongues from blocking the windpipe and choking them.

-Kneel beside the person
-Put the arm that's farthest from you out at right angles to their body.
-Place the nearer to you arm across their chest.
-Bend the leg closer to where you are kneeling beside the person at the knee, while the other leg underneath is kept straight.
-While supporting the head and neck, roll the person away from from you, this puts them on their side.
-Tilt the head slightly backwards and downwards so as to let anything that's blocking the airway drain out.
-Do not let the person go to sleep or talk you out of taking him/her to hospital.
-Do not give medication like (aspirin),food or drinks, sometimes an affected person with stroke loses their ability to swallow.
-Do not allow the person drive to the hospital
-Stay focused
If the symptoms vanish quickly, still seek immediate medical attention.

How can a physio help with knee pain?

A physiotherapist can assess knee pain by tests and in some cases may refer for investigations such as Xray or MRI to rule in or out serious structural damage to the knee. However, in many cases, this is not required and knee pain can be treated conservatively without the need for scans.

A specific range of motion, coordination and strengthening exercises will aim to reduce your pain and swelling, help you start walking without pain, and return to work and sports as quickly as possible.

If you or someone you know has knee pain which doesn’t seem to be getting better, seeing a physiotherapist for a tailored exercise program will be helpful.
