Health care is a team effort. Shared information supports that effort. Patients, their families and providers all benefit when all team members can communicate with each other effectively and efficiently.
Development of information technology and automation minimizes the negative effect of growth in workload. Automation is important in development of information technology in health service. In this study it is expected to elaborate the current health record system of the National Hospital in Sri Lanka and implementation plan of Electronic Health Record (EHR) system with expected outcome and challenges of the process.
Electronic Health Record (EHR) system is the best option for communication of team members of health service and automation can provide necessary information to the communication system. Investment of time, money and IT knowledge is required for the electronic health record (EHR) implementation resulting benefits in many ways such as patient management, statistical analysis and service management aspects.
