Sri Lanka College of Cardiology Founded in 1969, the Sri Lanka Heart Association was the premier Association for Cardiac Healthcare Professionals of Sri Lanka. R. Handy in 1969. J. T. W. P.

In 2020, SLHA became the Sri Lanka College of Cardiology Founded in 1969, the Sri Lanka Heart Association today is a member of the World Heart Federation (WHF) and the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology (APSC). It is also one of the founder members of the SAARC Cardiac Society. With a history of more than 40 years; an active council comprising senior most Cardiologists in the country; and an equally active membership, today it has become the main gathering point for the Cardiologists of the country with the aim of further enhancing their professional knowledge while informing the public about cardiovascular health. In 2020, SLHA became a professional college - thus establishing Sri Lanka College of Cardiology

Annual Scientific Sessions and Sri Lanka Intervention Meeting (SIM) are its two main academic events annually which are well patronized by both local and overseas cardiologists alike. History

The Sri Lanka Heart Association came into being after an informal meeting at the residence of Dr. G. Those present were Dr. N. Walloopillai, Dr. Theva A.Buell, Dr.S.J.Stephen and Dr. A. Jayawardene. Dr.Handy was elected as the first president and held office till 1972 when Dr.Walloopillai took over. On 1St April 1972 with Dr. Walloopillai in the chair the Sri Lanka Heart Association was officially formed at the Navarangala Hall. The Constitution of the Sri Lanka Heart Association was formally adopted In 1994 and Dr.Theva A Buell was elected as President of the Association. In 1996 Dr.S.J.Stephen assumed duties as President with a new set of Office bearers. In 2020, a new constitution was approved and adopted to form the Sri Lanka College of Cardiology.

As a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to advancing cardiovascular science and practice, SLJC continues to serve as a trusted platform for sharing high-quality research and clinical insights relevant to Sri Lanka and the region.

It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of gratitude that we present the final edition of the Sri Lanka College of Cardiology Newsletter for the 2024-2025 term.
Reflecting on the journey we've had this year, it is clear that we have experienced a vibrant and enriching chapter in the field of cardiology, and we have much to be proud of. October alone has been a month brimming with significant milestones.

As we bring this year’s newsletter to a close, I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to each and every one of you—our dedicated members and readers. Your contributions, whether through clinical insights, case reports, research, or your continuous support, have helped shape this newsletter into a vital resource for all of us. It is your commitment that infuses each edition with the knowledge, innovation, and collective wisdom that defines our community.

The Sri Lanka College of Cardiologists hosted the "Cardiac Imaging Live" event on October 11th and 12th at Jetwing Lighthouse, Galle, focusing on Cardiac CT, Cardiac MRI, Echocardiography, and Cardiac Nuclear Imaging. The event featured expert guest speakers including Dr. Tarun Mittal, Dr. Chiara Bucciarelli-Ducci, Dr. Jesu Krupa, Dr. Russel Bull, Dr. Prakash Priyadarshan, and Dr. Wasantha Kapuwatta.

The sessions covered a range of important topics, including cardiomyopathies, TAVR assessment, cardiac masses, valve disease, and heart failure, offering valuable insights into the latest advancements in cardiac imaging. The event had an excellent turnout, with participants engaging in discussions that enriched their understanding of these critical imaging techniques.

World Heart Day, observed globally on September 29, is dedicated to raising awareness about cardiovascular diseases and promoting heart-healthy lifestyles.
In celebration of this important day, the Sri Lanka College of Cardiology (SLCC) is organizing a Heart Walk, along with a health camp and a series of public awareness events on Sunday, September 28.

These initiatives aim to engage the community in preventive health practices, offer free health screenings, and educate the public on the importance of a balanced diet, regular exercise, and routine check-ups to maintain a healthy heart.

As part of this campaign, we have also shared the videos submitted to us in honor of World Heart Day, continuing our mission to inspire healthier habits and reduce the burden of heart disease across Sri Lanka.
