The first smart hearing implant in Sri Lanka and South Asia

Wickramarachchi Hearing Care is proud to announce the first Cochlear NEXA implant in both Sri Lanka and South Asia, completed at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital on 30 November 2025.

NEXA is the world’s first smart cochlear implant. Its firmware can be updated, similar to a smartphone. Recipients can now benefit from new features and future innovations throughout their lifetime.

A special thank you to Mihira Wickramarachchi for bringing this technology to Sri Lanka. Thank you to Lead Surgeon Dr Sanjeevani Rupasinghe and the dedicated team at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital for expertly conducting the surgery. And thank you to Dr Fulya Ustunkan and Dr Cole Lomas for the audiological support that allowed this groundbreaking surgery to take place.

This achievement marks a new era in hearing care for Sri Lanka.
