Reflecting on my address at the WONCA International Conference 2024, delivered on the final day of this landmark gathering held in Colombo.
World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) represents family physicians globally and champions the advancement of high-quality primary care. To be invited to speak at such a forum — as the then Secretary of the MCGP Board — was a true privilege.
In this address, I reflect on how the MCGP course was instrumental in shaping my career path — building not only clinical competence, but confidence, clarity, and credibility as a family physician.
I now serve as an examiner for MCGP (SL) and MRCGP (UK), the latter awarded by the Royal College of General Practitioners, and I am a Fellow (FCGP) of the College of General Practitioners of Sri Lanka.
My message is simple:
If career private practitioners truly want to stand out, elevate standards, and reach higher levels of excellence — postgraduate qualification in General Practice is transformational.
In today’s competitive healthcare landscape, structured training sharpens thinking, strengthens clinical judgment, and elevates patient care.
🎯 Let’s raise the bar for General Practice in Sri Lanka and beyond.
