Ph.D. students of Prof. Ranil de Silva; Mr. Nalaka Wijekoon and Mr. Lakmal Gonawala successfully defended their thesis and obtained Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Maastricht University, The Netherlands (THE Ranking 132). In addition to their PhDs Both Nalaka and Lakmal received a certificate of PhD excellence from the European Graduate School of Neuroscience (EURON), taking into account their previous publications (16 papers with a total impact factor of 65.3), international training, and leadership in science communication.

Meeting between a group of representatives from the research division of Wageningen University (WUR) in the Netherlands and the Governor of the Southern Province Hon. Bandula Harishchandra - organized by Prof. Ranil De Silva (FIAN), founder of the Interdisciplinary Center for Innovations in Biotechnology and Neuroscience at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura."

Participants included Professor Wilfred Dolfsma, Chair of the Research Division at Wageningen University, Kalyan Chakrawarthi, Finance Manager, and a delegation from the research division of Wageningen University. Joining them were Prof. Ranil De Silva (FIAN), founder of the Interdisciplinary Center for Innovations in Biotechnology and Neuroscience at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Southern Province Chief Secretary Sumith Alahakoon, Private Secretary to the Governor of the Southern Province Ravindra Liyanage, Coordination Secretary Sudarman Weerarathna, Ruhunu Tourism Bureau Chairman Ruwan Priyalal, Ruhunu Tourism Bureau Director Heman Dharmapriya, Southern Province Ayurveda Commissioner Dr. H.P. Karunawathi, along with university academics, and officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Department of Agriculture, Department of Export Agriculture, Department of Cinnamon Development, and tea research institutes.

Topics including agriculture, agriculture-related tourism businesses, sustainable environmental tourism businesses, emerging environmental systems, business innovation models, agriculture and forestry, food and health, and the use of compost fertilizer in the agricultural industry were extensively discussed.
