A place of magic the House on a Hill embodies the love, passion and joy of it's founder - late Mr. Lal Piyasena, the renown architect - Ashley de Vos and the simple mason Wijeyapala who built the house virtually stone by stone for nearly seven years.
As the name implies the house is built on a tea covered hill in a working plantation of Tea, Rubber, Coconut, Pepper & Cinnamon. The house was intended as the estate bungalow. But the site with it's unique 360 degree view of the natural landscape gave the renowned architect Ashley de Vos the inspiration to design an architectural masterpiece which won him the South Asia Architect of the year award in the year 2008.
The uniqueness of the House on a Hill is its magnificent 360 degree view which never remains the same. Its changing perpetually every minute, every hour, everyday. Watching the sun set on one side while the moon had already made it's entrance on the other, the huge expanse of sky on a clear night with millions & millions of stars, each constellation so clearly etched just as the drawings in a book, the huge moon on a full moon night bathing the place in ethereal beauty and the utter silence at night except for the sound of crickets, croaks of frogs and sometimes the howl of a lone fox in the distance are just some of the experiences at House on a Hill.
The house feature 3 large bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a large hall, a fully equipped pantry with Bosch appliances, a study cm TV room all opening onto the simple veranda running around the whole upper level. The lobby, kitchen & staff quarters are on the lower level ensuring complete privacy of the guests. The house is designed with unobstructed air circulation through out.
