The president of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomes thousands of delegates to his country and to COP28 reminding them about the challenge climate change has on people's lives.

"This meeting comes at a time when the world faces many challenges - the most significant is climate change and its impact on life," Al Nahyan said.

The UAE's President also announced a $30bn (£23.7bn) fund for "global climate solutions" to bridge the climate finance gap.

The President-designate of COP28, Sultan Al Jaber has refuted allegations he planned to use the climate summit to strike oil and gas deals.

A release issued by the COP28 team termed the reports as a piece of fake news.

On Monday, November 27, the BBC News and Centre for Climate Reporting published a claim that leaked briefing documents prepared for Al Jaber showed plans to discuss oil and gas deals with 15 nations.

Shedike Varlee Kamara, youthful energetic Executive Director Eco Climate Initiative - ECI is representing the young people of Liberia at COP-28 taking place in Expo City, UAE organized by UNFCCC from November 30 - to December 12, 2023.

At the climate summit, ED Kamara is expected to follow key negotiations and participate in other side events including the presentation of the AYCAP assessment report.

Liberia, most especially the youthful community is represented at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai. Key among them is the Liberian Youth for Climate Actions - LYCA- a leading youthful climate advocacy group in Liberia.

LYCA's delegation includes three males and two females headed by its Executive Director, Ezekiel Nyanfor. The group of energetic young people has been involved in lots of climate advocacy and activism impacting society.

Prior to their journey at this year's COP28 summit, LYCA, along with other climate advocates and activists under the banner "Pan African Climate Justice Alliance Liberia (PACJA-Liberia) launched the “Keep Your Promise” campaign, aimed at ensuring countries honor their commitments made under the Paris Agreements.

Years ago world leaders at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris reached a breakthrough on 12 December 2015 to tackle climate change and its negative impact.

Since the breakthrough, leaders have yet to live up to these promises as the world continues to experience the negative impact of Climate Change.

However, as world leaders are gathering in the Middle East to curb climate change, many are hoping that governments honor their previous promises, and seize the opportunity to put the world on a safer path.
