Today, we are pleased to spotlight a woman in medicine. One young lady that is doing tremendous work across Liberia through the health sector.
Lela Precious Dolo is a 22-year-old young leader and health enthusiast. She graduated from the Stella Maris Polytechnic in Monrovia, Liberia, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry.
She is a current AM Doglotti College of Health Sciences student. She graduated from the OST-University and Linth Hospital in Switzerland in August 2021 with a Certificate of Training in Hygiene, Infectious Prevention Measures, Cultural Exchange in the Field of Health and Pain, Pregnancy Control, Wound Management, Surgeries, and other important health course work.
Her intimate proximity to poverty and lack, as well as the loss of her younger brother to a treatable urinary tract infectious disease, pushed her to medicine and fuels her desire to improve Liberia's health sector and make a difference in people's lives. She has volunteered for AIESEC in Accra, Ghana, where she assisted hospitals and communities in delivering needed health services, and she has occasionally volunteered at Liberia's largest referral hospital, John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, where she assisted doctors and medical students in diagnosing and treating patients.
She is currently the Project Initiator and Manager of Liberia's Help a Mother Help a Neonatal initiative, which aims to address some of the country's major issues in reducing maternal and newborn fatalities. Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Switzerland are among the countries where she has worked.
She believes that through working together, Liberians can make the country a better place to live.
