What causes CSOs short lifespan?
On out training session under Youth Power Hub, facilitated by our implementing partner Democracy Works Foundation (DWF), we explore the critical elements of good governance and effective leadership that can make or break an organization.
Let's confront the harsh realities:
- โ
Unclear Mission & Vision: Without a clear direction and purpose, organizations struggle to make informed decisions, prioritize resources, and measure success.
- โ
Financial Strains: Inadequate funding and poor financial management can lead to cash flow problems, reduced impact, and even closure.
- โ
Governance Gaps: Weak corporate governance and lack of accountability can result in mismanagement, corruption, and erosion of trust among stakeholders.
- โ
Toxic Conflict: Destructive power struggles and poor communication can create a toxic work environment, undermine teamwork, and hinder progress.
- โ
Resistance to Change: Failure to adapt to shifting landscapes, whether it's changing donor priorities, new technologies, or evolving community needs, can render an organization obsolete.
- โ
Misguided Intentions: Starting an organization for the wrong reasons, such as personal gain or prestige, can lead to a lack of commitment, poor decision-making, and ultimately, failure.
