Suppressed Viral Load vs. Undetectable Viral Load

Viral suppression and undetectable viral load are related but not the same.

Viral suppression means the amount of HIV in the blood has been reduced to a low level (typically below 1,000 copies/mL).

Undetectable viral load means the virus is so low it cannot be detected by standard lab tests (usually below 20-50 copies/mL).

Being undetectable is what we call U=U (Undetectable = Untransmittable). This means a person with an undetectable viral load cannot s€xually transmit HIV to their partner.

A suppressed viral load, however, is still detectable and can potentially be transmitted.

✅ In short: all undetectable viral loads are suppressed, but not all suppressed viral loads are undetectable.

Stay informed. Stay safe. ❤️

🚨 Protect yourself: use condoms, get tested, consider PrEP, and if exposed, seek PEP within 72 hours. If you test positive, start ART early to stay healthy and prevent passing the virus to your partners. Together, we can reduce the number of new infections and create an HIV-free generation

Preliminary Outlook for 2025/26 Rainfall Season (October – February)
The preliminary forecast for the upcoming 2025/26 rainfall season (October to February) indicates a heightened probability of normal to above-normal rainfall across the period. The forecast suggests a progression in conditions throughout the season. The October-November-December (OND) period is most likely to experience rainfall within the normal range. A gradual shift is expected heading into the heart of the summer, with wetter conditions becoming more probable during the December-January-February (DJF) period.
For the forecast period of October 2025 to February 2026, temperatures are expected to remain near long-term seasonal averages.

If your partner told you they are living with HIV but undetectable (U=U, meaning they can’t pass it on), would you still insist on using a condom, or would you trust the science and go without? Be honest!

Transforming mental health services is one of the most pressing public health challenges. Investing in mental health means investing in people, communities, and economies – an investment no country can afford to neglect.

Ahead of the High-level meeting on noncommunicable diseases and mental health, we call on all leaders to act with urgency and to ensure that mental health care is treated not as a privilege, but as a basic right for all.

There is no cure for HIV yet. Taking antiretroviral treatment is the only way to protect your immune system from HIV. Antiretroviral treatment is not a cure, but it does control the virus. It means that people with HIV can live long and healthy lives.

Stigma hurts more than HIV.
Every day, people living with HIV are judged, rejected, and discriminated against, not because of who they are, but because of what they live with. This needs to stop.

HIV doesn’t define a person.
They are mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, and colleagues. They have dreams, careers, families, and hope, just like you.

Stigma kills more than the virus. It kills confidence, destroys families, and pushes people into silence.

You have the power to end this.
Show love, speak facts, stop judgment. The change starts with YOU.

✅ Stop the whispers.
✅ Stop the shame.
✅ Stop the stigma.

End stigma. End HIV. Together, we can.
