Breastfeeding can be a deeply rewarding journey, filled with moments of bonding and love. Breast milk acts as a baby’s first vaccine, strengthening their immune system and supporting healthy brain development.
Yet for some mothers, breastfeeding doesn’t always come easily. From physical discomfort to emotional challenges, every experience is unique. That’s why creating strong support systems through family, our Postnatal and Prenatal Services, and community helps mothers know they are not alone on this journey.
Here are some of the challenges some mothers go through:
1. Sore or cracked ni***es : Often caused by incorrect latch or positioning.
Solutions: Adjust the baby’s latch, use ni**le cream or breast milk for healing, and ensure proper positioning.
2. Engorgement : Breasts become overly full, hard, and painful.
Solutions: Nurse frequently, use warm compresses before feeding, and cold compresses after.
3. Blocked milk ducts : They can be due to tight clothing and bras as well as pressure on the ducts in the breast.
Solutions: Avoid tight clothing and tight bras.
4. Mastitis (breast infection): Inflammation of the breast following unmanaged enforcement, blocked ducts which leads to infection.
Solutions: Continue breastfeeding, rest, hydrate, and treat blocked ducts.
5. Breast Abscess: Painful fluctuant lump in the breast accompanied by fever due to untreated mastitis.
Solution: breastfeed on demand and express while away from the baby.
6.. Flat Ni***es: Breast Cancer can cause a sudden change in a ni***es's appearance, leading ti flattening especially if a tumor affects the milk ducts.
