🎉🩺 HAPPY NEW YEAR TO OUR INCREDIBLE FIRST AIDERS!😂❤️

Dear First Aid Family,

Happy New Year! 🥳✨ It’s the first day of the year, and before anyone faints from excitement (please don’t 😂it’s our day off 😭😂), we just want to say “thank you”

You survived another year of running toward chaos while everyone else ran away. From “it’s nothing” injuries that turned dramatic, to late calls, sore feet, missing gloves, and laughing in the middle of stress you showed up every single time ❤️🩺

As we step into this new year, may your hearts stay kind, your hands stay steady, your reflexes stay sharp, and your group chats stay quiet (at least sometimes 😂). May this year bring you success, growth, fewer emergencies, and more moments where you’re proud of the lifesaver you’ve become.

Today, rest. Eat. Laugh. Celebrate. And remember: you are not just first aiders, you are family, courage, and comfort to many.

Here’s to a New Year of strength, purpose, jokes in serious moments, and saving lives with love 💪❤️

Happy New Year, heroes! 🎆🩺

🎄🩺 MERRY CHRISTMAS TO OUR AMAZING FIRST AIDERS!😂❤️

Dear First Aiders,

Merry Christmas! 🎅🏽🎄 From bandages to burnout, from “it’s just a small cut” to full emergency mode . what a year it has been! You’ve chased casualties across campus, sacrificed your time, skipped naps, and somehow still smiled while doing it. Truly… heroes in gloves 😄🧤

To our first aid family: thank you for the love, the teamwork, the chaos, the laughter, and the” who has the gloves?” moments. You’ve turned stress into jokes, emergencies into lessons, and strangers into people who felt safe because ‘you were there’❤️

Please rest this Christmas . no checking pulses, no CPR drills, no “is that person okay?” instincts (at least try 😅). Eat like champions, laugh loudly, sleep deeply, and enjoy the festive season knowing you’ve made a real difference this year.

May your Christmas be full of joy, your food be unproblematic (no choking incidents please 🙏😂), and your New Year bring success, strength, and fewer emergencies!

Merry Christmas, lifesavers. We love you endlessly ❤️🩺🎄

You’re at a local soccer field watching a weekend match. Suddenly, a middle-aged man collapses near the benches. He’s not breathing and has no pulse. Someone shouts, “Call for help!” You rush over and start CPR while another bystander calls emergency services.

Based on this situation, what are the Do's and Don'ts of performing CPR?

In this hot weather, one of the things we should try by all means to protect ourselves against is dehydration. Firstly, what is dehydration? Dehydration occurs when the body loses more water or fluid than it takes in.

It can result from :
-Excessive sweating(especially in hot weather or during exercise)
-Not drinking enough water
-Vomiting or diarrhoea
-Fever
-Certain medical conditions

So how do you see that one is dehydrated? They are likely to show signs and symptoms like:
-Headache and confusion
-Tiredness (fatigue)
-Dizziness, weakness and lightheadedness
-Dry mouth and/or a dry cough
-Loss of appetite but maybe craving sugar
-Flushed (red) skin
-Swollen feet
-Muscle cramps
-Constipation
-Dark-colored p*e (urine)

Note that the above signs and symptoms are seen in adults, in kids, the following can be observed:
-Dry tongue and dry lips
-No tears when crying
-Fewer than six wet diapers per day (for infants), and no wet diapers or urination for eight hours (in toddlers).
-Sunken soft spot on your infant’s head
-Sunken eyes
-Dry, wrinkled skin
-Deep, rapid breathing
-Cool, blotchy hands and feet.

First Aid for Dehydration

1.Move to a cool, shaded area aHelp the person rest and get out of the sun or heat.
2.Encourage slow sips of fluids: Give water, oral rehydration solution (motsoako)
– Avoid caffeine, alcohol, or sugary drinks.
3.Loosen tight clothing to help cool the body
4.Cool the body if overheated-You can use a wet cloth or fan them gently.
5.Monitor symptoms( mentioned above):seek medical help immediately
6.If vomiting or unconscious
– DO NOT GIVE FLUIDS BY MOUTH
– Place them in the recovery position and call for emergency care.

Prevention: Drink plenty of fluids, especially in hot weather or after exercise.

HAVE HAPPY HOLIDAYS 🎉

World AIDS Day 2025

Yesterday, December 1st, we joined the world in commemorating World AIDS Day under the powerful theme: “Overcoming Disruption, Transforming the AIDS Response.”

As First Aiders, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by HIV/AIDS. We recognize the progress made, but also the challenges that still exist: from stigma to limited access to treatment in some communities.

Let’s continue raising awareness, educating others, and promoting preventive care:
- Know your HIV status
- Practice safe s*x (use condoms)
- Get tested regularly
- Avoid sharing sharp objects
- Encourage early treatment and adherence to ART

Together, we can break the stigma, promote healthy choices, and support a future free of HIV/AIDS.

Celebrating World First Aid Day the NULSFAA way! 💉❤️
We didn’t just mark a day but we lived the whole week with purpose, compassion, and service.
Our visit to Leratong Community Centre reminded us that First Aid isn’t just about treatment, it’s about presence, kindness, and care.

Happy world first aid day to everyone

Theme this year is" first aid and climate change"

Climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing humanity. Its effects are
manifested in the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as
heat waves, storms, floods, droughts and forest fires. These events, which threaten the
safety and well-being of populations, have a direct impact on human health and require
rapid and effective adaptation of emergency response systems

Therefore, this emphasises the need for communities to be prepared for emergencies in the face of changing environmental conditions. And also this day serves as a powerful reminder that basic first aid training can make a life-saving difference in critical situation.
