Two and a half years after his hip replacement, our patient sent us an update we are happy to share. Recently, he competed in the Abbott World Masters Marathon Championships, held as part of the New York City Marathon — finishing with an impressive time of 3:56:40 and placing 19th in the M70 age group. 🏅👏

We are proud to have been part of William’s journey and grateful for the kind words he shared about both Prof. S. Tarasevicius and physiotherapist Prof. L. Siupsinskas.

After being told he faced a three-year NHS wait for hip replacement surgery, Stephen decided to travel from South Wales to Lithuania to have his procedure at Nordorthopaedics — and had his surgery completed within three weeks of booking. 🇱🇹

Following the operation, he shared how quickly he regained mobility and returned to the activities he loves, including hiking and exploring the outdoors. 🌿

We are happy to share that our orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Tomas Kadusauskas, was recently featured in The New York Times, where he provided expert commentary on ACL injuries following the case of Liverpool defender Giovanni Leoni. ⚽

Dr. Kadusauskas explained that while ACL injuries are among the most serious setbacks for athletes, younger patients such as Leoni often have better biological recovery potential due to stronger healing capacity and fewer degenerative changes. However, the biggest difference in ACL recovery is not the patient’s age, but whether they are a professional athlete. Professional athletes face greater pressure and higher physical demands, while non-athletes usually focus on regaining normal daily function. He also highlighted the psychological challenges of long rehabilitation and the importance of structured, progressive recovery programmes to ensure a safe return to sport.

👨‍⚕️ Meet Dr. Titas Daraska — orthopaedic surgeon joining our Nordorthopaedics team.

Dr. Daraska specialises in diagnosing and treating injuries and conditions affecting both the upper and lower limbs. He consults patients with sports or domestic injuries as well as those suffering from degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis.

His surgical expertise includes bone fracture treatment and complications, shoulder and ankle arthroscopies, joint replacements, and correction of ankle and foot deformities.

We are happy to share that our orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Valdemar Loiba was recently featured in Newsweek, where he provided expert insights on a rare and complex case – the simultaneous rupture of both quadriceps tendons in a 66-year-old weightlifter. 🏋️‍♀️

Dr. Loiba explained that this type of injury is extremely rare and typically occurs during powerful knee extension, such as heavy weightlifting or landing after a jump. In these cases, reattachment surgery is performed using sutures and titanium anchors.

We are happy to share that our orthopaedic surgeon-traumatologist, Ritauras Rakauskas, has successfully defended his doctoral dissertation! 🎓

On August 29th, Dr. Rakauskas defended his scientific work on the topic:
“Comparison of anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using hamstring or quadriceps tendon grafts in paediatric patients.”

📌 The study involved patients aged 13–17, with all surgeries performed by Dr. Rakauskas. During the dissertation preparation, two articles were also published in international peer-reviewed journals.

We are proud of Dr. Rakauskas’ achievement, which not only strengthens his professional expertise but also contributes to medical progress and the well-being of patients. 💙
