We can’t wait to host our dear friend and amazing teacher Conor Byrnes at JYL this week-end!

Conor will be teaching two Jivamukti Open XL:

FRIDAY 18:30-20:30 &
SATURDAY 10:00-12:00:

Whether you’re a beginner, deciphering the difference between vrksasana (tree) and sirshasana (headstand) or an advanced yogi who can put both feet behind their head, the Jivamukti Open class welcomes you, as it is open to practitioners of all levels.
You work at your own pace, following the teacher’s verbal as well as hands-on guidance. Asana options will be provided for beginners, intermediate and advanced students.
A typical Open class incorporates the five tenets of Jivamukti Yoga:
shastra (scripture)
bhakti (devotion)
ahimsa (kindness)
nada (music)
dhyana (meditation)

An Open class presents classical yoga teachings as relevant to one’s life on and off the mat, drawn from the Focus of the Month essay, supported by chanting, breath awareness, flowing vinyasa sequences, alignment exploration, hands-on assistance, relaxation and meditation. All Open classes include 14 points—asanas, meditation and spiritual teachings—in a sequence creatively designed by the teacher. Exuberant, eclectic music plays an integral role: you might practice to a shifting soundtrack of ragas, global trance, hip-hop, spoken word, George Harrison, Sting, Krishna Das, Donna de Lory, Michael Franti, Bill Laswell, Alice Coltrane and Mozart.

The class is called “Open” because it is open and suitable to all levels of practitioner. Even so, beginning level students should know that there will not be much detailed “how to do” descriptions; for that a student is advised to attend a Basic or Beginner Vinyasa Class.

Price: 50€ each
Cancellation Policy: 48h with credit back on Mindbody account (no refund).

Pratyāhāra, the fifth limb of Patanjali’s eight limbs, is commonly described as ‘withdrawal’—to be able to withdraw your mind and senses from the external world. For many this has been interpreted as avoiding, ignoring or denying the senses. This interpretation has contributed to viewing the world in a negative way, as if it was the enemy of spirituality. I think this perspective has limited our consciousness, isolated us from nature, inhibiting spiritual evolution by reinforcing the schism that divides the world into good and bad and separates us from nature. Pratyāhāra, at least from a bhakti yoga perspective, is more inclusive than exclusive. “Bhakti loves senses,” as Shyamdas would say. So, what is pratyāhāra, and how do we practice it and what does it have to do with Yoga—with God realization, and healing our disconnection from nature?
God and the creation are not separate. It is us who have disconnected ourselves from God and from the world. If we can work on changing our perception of what we think of and see as mundane and what we think of and see as spiritual, we may have a chance at yoga. When we can offer all our activities to God, the higher Self, that which is beyond our own ego, when we bring bhakti, love for God, into our daily life then our life becomes sparkly and magical—certainly not mundane.

✨ LINK IN BIO ✨
Dear Friends,
As December arrives, we step into the quiet of winter.
Winter offers a moment for introspection and renewal. In these times, our yoga practice becomes a steady anchor… each time we come to the mat, we are guided to breathe deeply, listen inwardly, and reconnect with a calm, grounded centre.
As the year comes to a close, we can let go of what no longer serves us and open space for clarity, intention, and peace.

This month we are happy to welcome back our dear friend Conor Byrnes from Paris. He will be teaching two Open XL classes on Friday, December 5th, and Saturday, December 6th! Few spots left!

We are also excited to share the Stronger Together! Jivamukti Yoga Retreat in Salento (Italy), from 18th to 25th April 2026, led by Magali Lehners , Schalk Viljoen , Philippa von Heyden .berlin and Candida Vivalda . It is a week-long retreat designed for dedicated practitioners and teachers, combining yoga, meditation, philosophy, pranayama, chanting, and community connection in a peaceful Italian setting. All details are in this newsletter.

And we have more wonderful news for the coming year: in May 2026, we will be welcoming two of the most inspirational teachers we know for a special weekend of study and practice: Gregor Maehle .maehle and Monica Gauci .gauci . Over two days, they will guide sessions on asana, pranayama, as well as Monica’s in-depth exploration of pelvic balance: it is an amazing opportunity to learn directly from two renowned teachers. More information can be found in this newsletter!

And as the festive season approaches, many of you look for gifts that carry a sense of meaning… You can find at the studio gift cards for yoga classes, pieces from our new clothing collection, and other thoughtful items available at the studio.

May this month bring you steadiness, clarity, and renewed inner light!

With warmth and love,
Alexandra, Magali, and the JYL Team

Feelings can be used in a destructive way if we try to imply that other people’s behaviors are the cause of our feelings. The cause of our feelings is not other peoples behavior, it’s our needs. The observation you wrote down about what the other person did is a stimulus for your feelings, but the cause of your feelings. I’m sure most of us knew this at one time.

20/11/2025

When you look at a tree in a storm, you see that the top of the tree is very unstable and vulnerable. The wind can break the smaller branches at any time. But when you look down to the trunk of the tree, you have a different impression. You see that the tree is very solid and still, and you know that it will be able to withstand the storm. We are also like a tree.

Our head is like the top of the tree during a tempest of a strong emotion, so we have to bring our attention down to the level of our navel. We begin to practice mindful breathing. We concentrate just on our breathing and on the rise and fall of our abdomen. It is a very important practice because it helps us to see that, although an emotion may be very strong, it will stay only for a while and then go; it cannot last forever.

If you train yourself to practice like this during difficult times, you will survive these storms. You have to be aware that your emotion is just an emotion. It comes, stays for some time, and then goes away. Why should someone die because of an emotion? You are more than your emotions. It is important to remember this.
During a crisis, when you breathe in and out, maintain the awareness that your emotion will go away if you continue to practice. After you have succeeded a few times, you will have confidence in yourself and in the practice. Let us not get caught by our thoughts and feelings. Let us bring our attention down to our belly and breathe in and out. This storm will go away, so don’t be afraid.

✨ INNER INTUITION CIRCLE ✨ with ._bypetra_
Time to hear and listen to your inner voice.
Do you ever notice how hard it is to sit down in silence and truly listen to yourself?

Before the holiday season sweeps us away, come slow down. Come share space, breathe, arrive, and just be.

We’ll explore:
✨ gentle movement
🎶 chanting with harmonium
📝 introspective writing
🔮 oracle cards
😌 deep relaxation

In introspective writing we’ll look at the past year — what shaped you, what challenged you, what supported you, and what you’re ready to release.

Because taking time for yourself is one of the most underrated gifts in today’s world.
Because sharing presence with others and uplifting energy through chanting can open spaces in your heart you didn’t even know were there.

And if you’re still wondering why to join, one good question can change your life.
