An ancient music tradition comes to Luxembourg embodied by Anshuman Maharaj and Vibhu Maharaj perpetuating their family art in the 7th generation.
The beauty and virtuosity of indian classical music has always been a source of amazement and wonder. It is not only musicians or musically educated audiences who are left breathless when listening to the perfection and power of this music.
The melodic structure ‘raga’ and the metrical-rhythmic cycle ‘tala’ were already described in the sacred scriptures of the vedic corpus thousands of years ago.
Musicians agree on the spiritual and emotional colouring (or mood) they want to evoke from the enormous variety of existing ragas and talas.
The artists' ability to immerse themselves deeply in the sound of each individual note is crucial in order to build improvisations that begin at a slow tempo and become faster and more intricate as they progress.
At each concert, the artists experience the music anew.
Beginning with quiet themes that pe*****te deep into the soul, there is a constant increase in energy and speed.

Anshuman Maharaj - sarod
Sensitive, energetic and virtuosic, Anshuman Maharaj plays the sarod, a 25-stringed North Indian instrument. He's a former master student of Pandit Narendra Nath Dhar. He has been awarded many honorary titles and has performed at India's most important music festivals and venues with his brother Vibhash Maharaj.
Both musicians represent the 7th generations of the famous Maharaj family tradition from Benares (or Varanasi) and preserving their ancestors’ spiritual legacy.

Vibhash Maharaj - tabla
Since early childhood, Vibhash has been fascinated by the tabla, India's most important percussion instrument. Vibhash became a student of his grandfather Pandit Nanku Maharaj, of his uncle Pandit Kishan Maharaj and later of his famous father, Pandit Prakash Maharaj.
Vibhash Maharaj now teaches at Benares Hindu University.
