Did you know cardiovascular disease affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide? Yet approximately 80% of CVD, including heart attack and stroke, is preventable. Knowing the risk factors associated with CVD is an important first step in helping to prevent it.

🧬 Lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), is a genetically determined cardiovascular risk factor that remains widely under recognized. Elevated Lp(a) can significantly increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, independent of other risk factors.

🔍 Awareness remains low among both the public and healthcare professionals, despite the fact that around 1 in 5 people worldwide have elevated Lp(a) levels, often without knowing it.

🩺 Lp(a) can be measured with a simple blood test, typically needed only once in a lifetime. Greater awareness can help enable more informed conversations about cardiovascular risk and prevention.

On Lp(a) Awareness Day, we support efforts to increase understanding and dialogue around this important cardiovascular risk factor.

On International Women’s Day we celebrate women across our communities while also highlighting something essential: women’s health and the importance of breast cancer screening.

At Novartis, we believe that good health creates opportunity. Preventive health checks are one of the most meaningful ways to take care of ourselves and the people around us. Early detection of breast cancer saves lives, and participation in national screening programmes can make a real difference.

We encourage women across the Baltics, and those who support them, to learn more about breast cancer screening in their country:

We choose action‑driven optimism for on International Optimists Day - because every patient in the Baltics deserves timely access to innovation.💙

Today, optimism means acting together to shorten the time patients wait for breakthrough treatments.
Across our region, those waits remain too long:

🇱🇹 Lithuania: 819 days
🇪🇪 Estonia: 713 days
🇱🇻 Latvia: 642 days

Delays like these limit patient outcomes and slow down our region’s economic strength and security‑related resilience. But the Baltics are powered by innovation, collaboration and a shared ambition to do better.

At , optimism is our commitment to action.
Let’s move the needle together and ensure no patient is left waiting. 🚀🌍

Valentine’s Day is not only about love - but it is also a moment to reflect on the heart health that allows us to be there for the people we love.

👉 Cardiovascular diseases remain the No.1 cause of death across the Baltics, silently taking lives and separating families far too early. Many of the key risk factors, particularly elevated cholesterol, often show no symptoms and can be managed when detected early.

❤️This Valentine’s Day, we encourage everyone to take a proactive step toward heart health:

- Schedule a cholesterol and heart-health risk-factor check
- Maintain hearth-healthy habits with movement, mindful eating and moments of rest
- Remind your loved ones to take care of their hearts too

Strong hearts build strong communities.

Take care of your heart today - so you can be present tomorrow.

Let’s take bold steps to modernize healthcare: driving innovation, improving access, and boosting Europe’s competitiveness for the benefit of every patient. 💡🌍

Baltics at a glance: priority actions from the European Semester Recommendations
✅ Estonia: Secure sustainable funding for both healthcare and long-term care, so that services remain accessible and affordable for all, even as costs rise.
✅ Latvia: Strengthen the health system by expanding the range of services covered, increasing both staff and funding, and reducing the financial burden on patients - so more people can get the care they need.
✅ Lithuania: Make healthcare more resilient by improving access to primary and preventive care, and by ensuring there are enough health professionals to meet patient needs.

The recent Health at a Glance 2025 report highlights that, to stay competitive, Europe must prevent non-communicable diseases, accelerate digital transformation, reinforce primary care, and ensure affordable access to innovation. When we reward value, speed up access, and scale digital health, patients benefit - and Europe’s global competitiveness grows.

Novartis calls for policies that put patients first by rewarding health innovation, setting ambitious investment targets, and reforming pricing to accelerate access. These steps not only deliver breakthrough therapies faster, but also drive economic growth and strengthen society’s resilience.

2026 is the time to act.

Together with partners in the Baltics, we can build healthcare systems that deliver innovation, equity, and sustainability for all.
