Sadiki Man Sahara – What We’re All About

Where We Started

Our little project started many months ago, initially collecting donated children’s clothes to take out to tiny remote villages across the Atlas Mountain district in Morocco. Our donations came from our network of friends and parents across the UK; everyone was so kind and support came from all directions. We received so many items that flying out with suitcases full at a time was no longer good enough and we had to fill the car, nearly to the brim and take the long road. Our destination was the primary school in a small disconnected village located in the foot hills of the Atlas Mountains, 12km along a dirt track through the stone desert. The children were overjoyed to receive all their fabulous new clothes: most put them all on, straight away! That was the first day that we knew this needed to become a real project, working on a larger scale to reach out to as many people as possible. We’ve Been Busy

Since then, our network throughout Morocco has expanded and we have searched out more people and communities that really need more help and support. People will be receiving our help from the UK all across Southern Morocco from the Atlas Mountains to deep down in the Sahara Desert where inhabitants endure some of the worlds’ harshest weather conditions, with extremely restricted water supplies. Fundraising is a priority now with our target set at £5,000 to enable us to upgrade from project to charity status. As well as trying to be able to raise the funds for the transportation we are always collecting clothes ready to be taken out to the villages before the harsh winters set in. We are working really hard at the moment trying to create some exciting ways for people to help with fundraising including competitions for school students, organising nationwide raffles and selling a variety of handcrafted items. We’re looking for as many people as possible to help us out but in tiny, little ways; the idea being that if lots of people do a little bit, over all, all together we can achieve something massive. We have a lot to do before the trip this winter to ensure we reach all the people that need our help. This years winter clothes run aims to deliver clothes to 30 or more remote villages and plans and preparations are underway for the trip. We are also looking to continue our work all year round by helping to fund a Moroccan based project, Sadiki Man Mhamid giving aid to the poor and needy providing food and basic medical assistance. Our plans keep on expanding with the more people we come into contact with and we are always trying to find new ways to help, not only by providing short term aid through donations, but lasting, more long term solutions aiming to develop and improve the lives of inhabitants. Next on the cards is the launch of our website which we’re working on right now- so watch this space!

This project is working across the south of morocco. 2016/17 will see the start of big developments both with continued work in schools and in new schemes. There are many benefits to many Moroccans and i hope to involve as many people as possible in the next two years. Come and join in!
A huge school tour in October will visit over 100 schools in remote villages taking clothes and equipment and organising crafts, performing arts and sports workshops for young children.
In the first of the new schemes im aiming to turn 25 square km of dry desert land into fertile, blooming agriculture that is able to supply a small town with enough food for its inhabitants; that can be sustained for the future.
There is so much news to follow! Please follow my progress... There is so much more news to follow very soon! And ideas are always welcome too! Also... Be prepared for the launch of my youtube channel !

So I am working on organising this big "tour" to deliver all the clothes out in Morocco for November. The current plan is spending two weeks visiting as many places as possible (about 30 villages and schools) to take the supplies. In addition we have a couple of small music festivals along the way. But im trying to confirm the tour name.... my ideas so far are "Fueling the Future" , "Enlightnment" and " Hope is Here" please can people send me their thoughts.... and suggestions if they have any. Also please continue sharing this with your friends and telling people about it. We are still collecting clothes and money donations to make this thing possible! Please help if you can!

Some of my friends in the desert :)

This time last year I was planning my first trip to Morocco to visit the first little village. And again I’m planning for the trip againg in October/November but this time instead of only visiting one village I’m hoping to spend 10 days covering about 25 villages delivering not only clothes but school and medical supplies too. In brief we are also trying to run a project in Mhamid El Gizlane, the last town at the end of the road as you enter the Sahara Desert.
Here the people have a very limited supply to water. The sandstorms batter ever harder through the streets bringing an unwelcome invasion. Mhamid’s neigbouring village, Taragalte, now totally submerged and lost to the sands stands as a bleek warning for the future of Mhamid. Our project there aims to build a lasting sustainability to Mhamid involving many aspects such as agriculture, solar power and recycling.
Using science to fight against the difficulties of growing anything in the desert we want to encourage and develope better techniques for growing good food crops and grasses to feed the animals. Then, in time we plan build a natural desefense agains the storms in the form of a giant orchard forest around the town to not only act as a shield but provide a fruitful harvest and take strain off the limited delivered food suplies.
As well as supporting the schools with simple equipment like pens and paper we are going to to be running a youth club in Mhamid giving the children opportunities to get creative with arts and crafts, do dancing and drama workshops and play sports.
With no bin men out there the desert is like one massive dustbin gathering rubbish. We are putting great insentives in place for people to start recycling starting with paper then plastic and eventually metal to make them into new, more useful things and items to be sold for fundraising.
Fundraising really is the biggest thing right now because we just can’t get all the clothes there without a little bit of help. I’m running raffles, doing kids compertitions and have some fabulous kids craft packs for sale. We’re trying to organise “Morocco Exerience” days, holidays… all sorts. Of course I am also still collecting clothes to take out as well as trying to score some good funding from some big corperate companies… fingers crossed. If you want to help please have a chat some time.
