When we feel safe and loved in a relationship our brain creates space for exploration and play; when we are frightened and unwanted it focuses on dealing with feelings of fear and abandonment. ❤️

💮 When we feel threatened our bodies release huge amounts of stress hormones to help us overcome the danger. That is the fight-or-flight response kicking in, and we literally shake with fear - shaking which is also known as neurogenic tremors.

💮 "Neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky wrote a book called, "Why Zebras Don’t Get Ulcers". The reason being that zebras and other animals know how to dissipate stress. They simply shake it off and get back to living in the moment."

💮 Human beings have gradually lost this skill of self-regulating their nervous systems, and from a young age we learn to suppress our feelings and tremors.

💮 "This repression of our emotional trauma causes it to be stored in our skeletal muscles. Our bodies and minds are intricately connected."

Neurogenic tremors are the body's natural way of dissipating stress, we need to re-learn this natural stress relieving mechanism

TRE® Malta

"As the brain releases emotional charge, the muscle tissue in the body relaxes, and as muscle tissue relaxes, the brain can release the emotions associated with the contraction pattern." Dr. David Berceli, Trauma Release Exercises

I’m very happy to introduce this somatic therapy in Malta. TRE stands for Tension, Stress or Trauma Releasing Exercises. These exercises help individuals to release stress or tension as a result of long-term stress or traumatic life experiences. Consisting of seven simple stretches, TRE evokes a muscular shaking process in the body. The exercises activate this shaking or neurogenic tremors in a safe and sustained manner.

When evoked in this way, the tremor begins to release deep chronic muscular tension held within the body. Therefore it stimulates the body’s natural response to reduce the highly aroused state of the stressful or traumatic experience and release the contraction pattern – allowing the body to slowly come back to its natural relaxed state. When tension is released anywhere in the body, the brain registers a reduction in pain signals and produces new hormones for relaxation and comfort. Often, this release of tension is much like receiving an internal massage.

TRE was developed by Dr. David Berceli, a trained social worker who spent years in high conflict areas. Whilst in a bomb shelter, he noticed that people would make the same involuntary movements when they would hear a bomb strike, covering their head with their hands and curling up into the fetal position. He was interested in the fact that after the bomb strikes, children would tremble and shake, while adults did not.
