👶 Baby & Me – Gozo

Inspire Malta is currently running Baby & Me, a programme in Gozo that supports parents during the early years (0–3). The programme provides guidance, practical strategies, and peer support for families raising children with disabilities, children who may be at higher risk of autism, or parents who have concerns about their child’s development.

Our Commissioner Rhoda Garland, speaking with the Service Dogs Malta Foundation, emphasised that service dogs on duty have the right to access all areas of society and cannot be refused entry anywhere.

This applies to restaurants, taxis, hospitals, beaches, and any other space. Denying access to a service dog is not permissible.

Did you know that the Commission has been around since 1987? That’s almost 40 years of working towards disability rights. To reflect this history, our communications team researched and spoke with long-standing colleagues to launch this revamped History page on our CRPD website.

Along the years, the Commission has supported several milestones in Malta’s disability journey, including the Equal Opportunities Act, the UNCRPD and ongoing work to improve accessibility, inclusion, education, and employment opportunities.

Of course much remains to be done - but, by looking back at what has been achieved, we can also look ahead to keep working for disability rights in Malta and Gozo.

Discover the history and milestones of how CRPD evolved over the years. Learn how CRPD protects, promotes and monitors disability rights.

This is a clear example of how CRPD connects with communities - with DET sessions serving as an important bridge to reach different groups

This time our Disability Equality Trainer, Vanessa Cassar delivered a Disability Awareness Assembly at St Margaret College Middle School in Bormla.

The session dove into the world of intellectual disabilities and hidden impairments, focusing on the fact that not all disabilities are visible. The students showed genuine interest and engaged through a questions and discussions.

🌟 ACTIVATE Pilot Academy Update

Earlier this year, autistic young people (16–29) took part in the ACTIVATE Pilot Academy, an ERASMUS+ initiative supporting self-advocacy.

During the sessions, participants explored challenges they might face in work, education, and healthcare, practised strategies to navigate them, and learned about their rights.

They engaged in role-plays, peer exercises, and journaling to build confidence and practical skills.

The next step will be workshops across Europe, where participants will meet with stakeholders to put their advocacy skills into practice and contribute to meaningful change.
