"Repetition is the Mother of Learning, the Father of Action , which makes it the Architect of Accomplishment" - Zig Ziglar

I'm sure that you've heard of the saying 'Practice makes perfect' ๐Ÿค” same applies for Babies/Toddlers ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผโ˜บ. Babies benefit from familiarity and repetition as it forms the basis for learning skill development & accomplishment.

So when your Little One throws food/toys repeatedly on the floor, when your toddler asks you to read the same book (for the 1000th time ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฃ) or wants to play the same game over and over again, REMEMBER that it's a good thing๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป!! Repetition provides practice that a child needs to master new skill.

What does your Little One ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ wants to do over and over again?

๐ŸŒˆ RAINBOW OOBLECK ๐ŸŒˆ

Oobleck is a fun sensory activity that is very simple to make, edible, easy to clean and very fun activity for toddlers & babies to play with!

Oobleck is neither solid nor liquid ๐Ÿค” It has properties of both ๐Ÿคฃ as it moves like a liquid but feels solid when pushed! All you need is:

๐Ÿ– 2 cups cornstarch / cornflour
๐Ÿ– 1 cup water

Mix them together. To make it more interesting add food colouring (optional) on top to make a rainbow effect.

Such activity helps in:

๐Ÿ“Ž Cognitive development - sensory play forms strong neural pathways in the brain which helps baby understands her experience during play.

๐Ÿ“ŽFine motor skills - it strengthens the small muscles of their tiny fingers as oobleck goes solid when pushed.

๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽต Sound Sensory Basket ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ

Here is another sensory idea that you can easily do at home! Create a sound basket ๐ŸŽต with household things that create a sound to work on the listening skills and let the baby explore and play what's inside!

Lets just say that the pastry brush and the aluminium container were a hit with Baby Chloe ๐Ÿ˜‚

Ideas of what you can use:

โœ… put pasta or lids in small containers to make variety of sounds

โœ…pots and pans - used as drums ๐Ÿฅ

โœ…wooden spoons / pastry brush used as drumsticks

โœ…christmas bells

โœ…toys that make noise

Such activity has many benefits for babies as well as toddlers as it helps them in :

๐Ÿ“Ž hand-eye coordination

๐Ÿ“Ž building and strengthening muscles of babies hands and arms

๐Ÿ“Ž encourages them to explore new things

๐Ÿ“Ž develops listening skills

It is IMPORTANT not to leave the baby unattended!! Have ago with anything in the house that makes a noise.

Feel free to ask anything or suggest things you've used and were a hit!! It would be interesting to know what you've created!!

Since we are spending a lot of the time inside, Covid Days made me think of ways how i can stimulate my Little One ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ!

While decluttering the drawers, came across some spare christmas wrapping paper. I cut them into strips and taped them to the glassdoor at a level where Baby can reach and pull. Also stuck some tape to the playmat and glassdoor and folded the ends on each strip so she could pull it off.

Obviously it is IMPORTANT to supervise your Little One ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ to make sure it's not swollowed. Baby Chloe still mouths everything and since I was watching her closely I allowed her as babies explore their world through their senses.

Such activity helps:

๐Ÿ”† develop fine motor skills

๐Ÿ”† understand 'cause & effect' which in turn helps them understand about their world and build neural pathways

๐Ÿ”† develop problem solving skills

๐Ÿ”† develop coordination & balance as Baby tries to reach paper with one hand.

Midwives & Paediatricians encourage you to do 'tummy time' however it's easier said then done as most babies start to cry as soon as you put them on their tummy!

Mummies don't be discouraged by their cry!! There are many reasons to keep encouraging your Baby to practise 'tummy time' on a daily basis. Apart from building Strength in upper body which is necessary for Crawling and Sitting, it helps the Central Nervous System to develop and makes them feel more Confident and Independent. Babies will also stimulate their Visual perception.
