☀️ Vitamin D in Winter? Even in Malta, Yes!
Winter = shorter days + weaker sun = less vitamin D production

Why it matters:
•Strengthens bones & teeth
•Boosts immunity (hello, flu season!)
•Supports mood & energy
•May reduce risk of chronic illness

Where to get it:
1. Foods such as Eggs, Fatty fish, Fortified milk
2. Supplements or POM (Prescription Only Medicine) Vitamin D

🔍 Did you know?
A study by Sanjay et al. found that:
• Supplements can vary from 8–201% of the stated dose
• POM Vitamin D is more reliable—90–97% accurate

💡 POM Vitamin D is regulated like a medicine, while supplements are not.
Please speak to your Dr or GP about which is best for you.

🦴 World Osteoporosis Day – October 20
“Say No to Fragile Bones”

Today we raise awareness about osteoporosis—a silent disease that weakens bones and increases the risk of fractures.

Here’s how you can protect your bone health:
▪️Eat calcium- and vitamin D-rich foods
▪️Stay active with weight-bearing exercises
▪️Avoid smoking and limit alcohol
▪️Get screened if you’re at risk

Let’s take action early to stay strong, mobile, and independent for life.

Healthy bones = a healthier future!

🌍 World Menopause Day 18th October 2025 – Lifestyle Medicine💜

Menopause is a natural biological transition and this year the IMS are focusing on how lifestyle medicine can support women through this change.

What happens to hormones during menopause?
As women approach menopause, the ovaries gradually reduce producing three hormones:
▫️Estrogen – drops significantly, leading to hot flashes, vaginal dryness and increased risk of osteoporosis and heart disease.
▫️Progesterone – declines, contributing to irregular periods and sleep disturbances
▫️Testosterone – also decreases, which may affect libido, energy, and muscle mass.

Lifestyle medicine including nutrition, exercise, stress management, and sleep hygiene can help ease symptoms and reduce long-term health risks.
Hormone therapy and non-hormonal treatments are also available and should be discussed with your gynaecologist.

Let’s normalize the conversation and empower women with knowledge during this pivotal life stage.

🎀 How to do a breast self-exam – in 3 simple steps 🎀

Early detection can save lives.
Doing a monthly self-check helps you get to know your body and spot any changes early.

💕In the shower
Use the pads of your 3 middle fingers to check your entire breast and armpit area. Use light, medium, and firm pressure. Feel for any lumps, thick spots, or changes.
💝In front of a mirror
Look at your breasts with your arms at your sides, then raised. Check for changes in shape, size, skin texture, or ni**le appearance.
💓Lying down
Place a pillow under your shoulder and your arm behind your head. Use your opposite hand to feel your breast in small circular motions, covering the whole area.

🔔 If you notice anything unusual—like a lump, swelling, or skin changes—talk to your doctor right away.

World Contraception Day – September 26
💜 “A choice for all. Freedom to plan, power to choose.”

Today we raise awareness about the importance of access to contraception and reproductive health for everyone—because planning your future should be a right, not a privilege.

▫️Contraception helps prevent unplanned pregnancies
▫️Supports women’s health and well-being
▫️Empowers individuals to make informed choices
▫️Promotes gender equality and stronger communities

Let’s break the stigma, share the facts, and support access to safe, effective contraceptive options for all.
