Take a step back.

A certain degree of emotional detachment is important. Taking a step back from problems and expected events makes you less affected by them.

Attachment causes you to cling to the familiar, and makes you fear letting go. Too much attachment allows surprises and unpleasant events to have a greater negative effect on you.

Develop acceptance within you.

When you admit and agree that you cannot avoid unfavourable events, they become less troubling for you.

This acceptance will lead you to an act of courage and contentment in a significant way. The sooner you develop this acceptance; the better your attitude towards the unexpected.

When something bad happens don't beat yourself up.

Realize that you, me, and everyone else are not, and never will be perfect.

Sometimes things happen because of our imperfections or shortcomings. Sometimes it's our fault.

But don't stop there. Accept your imperfections by working on them if you can. This is how you forgive yourself.

If what happened is irreversible, what good would you gain by becoming angry, stressed or panicked? You would gain nothing.

Instead of getting flustered and confused, angry or feeling helpless, it would be much more useful to think constructively where you are going from there.

You need to think how to adjust to the new situation and either fix it, improve it, or make the most of it.

Time is the most just thing on the planet.

No matter what happens to you, whether good events or bad ones, time does not discriminate between them but keeps on going.

Whenever you are experiencing a negative unexpected event, remember that "This too shall pass". Patience and Persistence.

You don’t have to go through adversity alone. Reach out to someone you trust and talk to them.

What happens when you talk things out, is that you will have more clarity and focus on the big picture.

You still need to honor your emotions and not bottle them up, but talking to someone will help you go through it.

You are in control. You aren’t in control of what happens to you but you’re in control of how you respond to it.
