Rooted deeply in Maltese tradition, Il-Borma tal-Ġimgħa l-Kbira is a sacred aromatic preparation once simmered with spices, citrus, wine, and the precious resin Balzmu (benzoin). Its scent filled churches and Good Friday exhibitions, creating an atmosphere of reverence, reflection, and prayer.

Inspired by this ancestral ritual, we created Il-Balzmu, a master blend that captures the balsamic, warm, meditative aroma of this beloved Maltese tradition.

Rooted deeply in Maltese culture, ‘Il-Borma tal-Ġimgħa l-Kbira is a traditional blend of herbs, spices, wine, and resins, including the notable benzoin.

This mixture is meticulously simmered to release a scent that embodies the solemnity and reverence of the season. The aromatic infusion is then gently burned in churches and during Good Friday exhibitions, creating an atmosphere conducive to reflection and meditation.

Traditional Ingredients:
• Cloves (Imsiemer tal-Qronfol): Impart a warm, spicy aroma.
• Citrus Fruits: Oranges (Larinġ) and lemons (Lumi) provide fresh, zesty notes.
• Benzoin Resin (Balzmu): Contributes a balsamic, vanilla-like fragrance that enhances the overall depth of the blend.
• Apples (Tuffieħ): Add a subtle sweetness.
• Old Wine (Inbid Qadim): Serves as the liquid base, enriching the aroma.
• Coriander Seeds (Kosbor): Introduce a warm, spicy note.
• Cinnamon Sticks (Bastun Kannella): Provide a sweet, woody scent.
• Anise Liqueur (Aniżetta): Adds a sweet, licorice-like aroma.
