WAM x European Aquatics x ASA Malta β A Major Step Forward for Inclusive Water Polo
Waterpolo Ability Malta (WAM) is proud to announce a strengthened collaboration with European Aquatics, following a strategic coordination meeting held in Malta together with ASA Malta.
The meeting brought together:
Antonio Silva, President of European Aquatics
Karl Izzo, President of ASA Malta
Representatives of WAM Foundation
Silvia Costa, Project Manager at European Aquatics
Discussions focused on embedding Water Polo Inclusion (WPI) within the European Aquatics Long-Term Strategy Programme β ensuring that inclusion is not a side initiative, but fully integrated into governance, development pathways, and competition structures.
A key pillar of this shared vision is the unified competition model, enabling athletes with and without disabilities to compete together under shared sporting objectives, supported by adapted regulations where necessary.
πΉ Concrete steps agreed:
β Establishment of a dedicated coordination group
β Athlete eligibility & classification criteria defined
β Continued institutional dialogue for 2026 implementation
β Inclusion initiatives linked to the 2026 Menβs & Womenβs Champions League Final Four events in Malta
European Aquatics and ASA Malta also met with Maltaβs Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation to align broader 2026 strategic projects.
π²πΉ These developments position Malta β and WAM β at the heart of structured inclusion in European waterpolo.
This is more than collaboration.
This is a structural commitment to inclusive excellence in water polo.
