Homemade pouches for my little one 🍎🥝🍌Essentially these are smoothies on the go which make a great lunchbox addition and are a great way to incorporate both fruit and veg. Whatever the recipe just add some lemon juice to prevent discoloration. These are also freezer friendly.

You’re probably thinking.. why go through the trouble of making them when you can buy them ready? While store bought pouches are convenient and easy and something I occasionally go for myself, they also can be a source of concentrated sugar.

For those mamas and mamas to be here’s a distinction between the two main weaning approaches. It may all seem daunting at the start until you get the hang of it. Or at least that’s how I felt at first. But like anything else knowledge is power.

Coming out on the other end I can now offer these 2 tips above others:
- Experiment and embrace the journey with your little one. The more textures and flavours they’re introduced, the less picky they tend to be when they’re older.
- Follow your little ones lead. Like us, babies have different preferences and they reach developmental milestones differently. For example, my Ali likes her food at room temperature atm

There are so many great resources and inspiration out there.. I like to refer to refer to BBCgoodfood and Annabel Karmel just to name a few.

Oven baked pancake
A perfect snack for little ones and old ones alike. Also less mess and fuss by just making a batter and placing it in the oven for about 20 mins.

This pancake recipe is Made out of:
- oats
- Greek yoghurt
- Baking powder
- Egg
- Mixed berries
- Cinnamon
Blitzed in a blender and placed in baking paper for even less cleaning. My daughter loved them and best of all no added sugar was used. 😍

Ali’s breakfast isn’t too different to mine. Introducing a wide range of fruit and veg and textures is important as part of the weaning process.

Weaning can be an overwhelming process for new mothers. Here are some practical tips:
- Plan ahead by writing out a menu
- Keep a freezer supply in ice cube trays for individual portions
- Try to mirror your meals as they get older so as not to cook different recipes
- When possible stick to unprocessed foods

This post has been a long time coming. Having experienced pregnancy for the first time last year showed me just how incredible the human body is first hand! One important aspect that contributes to growing a healthy baby is nutrition.

While getting in a balanced diet rich in all nutrients is necessary, there are some key nutrients that are needed, here is a quick run down:
Folate & folic acid - for proper brain and spinal cord development
Calcium & vitamin D - to strengthen bones and teeth
Protein - promotes growth throughout pregnancy
Iron - to build up more blood to supply blood to your baby

A varied diet rich in the above nutrients and a pre-natal vitamin is normally enough. For more info about a healthy pregnancy diet please get in touch.
