🇬🇧 When Care Meets the Law: Navigating the Complexities of Older Adults’ Care
On 5th December 2025, the Nursing Administration, together with the Nursing Speciality Unit, hosted a seminar at The President’s Palace focused on the legal, ethical, and practical challenges in caring for older adults. The event offered participants valuable insights into navigating these complexities in professional practice.
A key highlight was the contribution of Dr Daniel Bianchi, Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Law at the University of Malta, and Dr Michael Sciriha from Michael Sciriha Advocates. They provided expert advice on participant-submitted cases, offering practical guidance on addressing these issues within a professional and regulatory framework.
The seminar also featured interactive workshops, encouraging active participation and hands-on application of knowledge; helping to strengthen the nursing workforce in providing safer, more informed, and higher-quality care to older adults.
Building on the discussions from this seminar, a dedicated working group will be established to take forward the experts’ recommendations. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and relevant forms will be reviewed and updated to reflect the matters discussed, ensuring that all agreements and conclusions from the day are systematically addressed and effectively implemented. In doing so, we continue to ensure that care for our older adults is safe, informed, and of the highest quality.
During the event, a donation of €235 was also presented to the Community Chest Fund.
