Ingrown toenails are caused by the nail growing into the surrounding skin, often due to improper trimming, tight footwear, or injury. Mild cases can be treated with home care, but more serious or infected cases may require medical attention.
Causes
1. Tight footwear.
2. Toenail trauma.
3. Natural nail shape.
4. Excessive sweating.
5. Fungal infections.
Self Care;
Wear proper footwear: Opt for sandals or shoes with a roomy toe box to relieve pressure on the affected toe.
Clean the site of the wound with saline drops and gently dry with sterile gauze. Keep wound dressing with sterile gauze and tape.
See a podiatrist if your symptoms do not improve, you suspect an infection (pain, pus, excessive swelling, redness), or you have a condition like diabetes or poor circulation.
