In ancient Egyptian religion, Sopdet (also known as Sothis to the Greeks) was the goddess of fertility and agricultural abundance. She personifies the star Sirius and she was strongly associated with the annual Nile inundation and the beginning of the new year, as the rising of Sirius.

Given meaning of number 8 :
