Malawi Orthopaedic Association (MOA) is a national impartial and a non-political, non-profitable advisory body that works to promote quality Orthopaedic care for all people in Malawi with neuromuscular skeletal deformities and injuries, through provision
of scientific forums and support of musculoskeletal research and education of Orthopaedic surgeons, Orthopaedic clinical officers, prosthetic and Orthotic technicians.

Furthermore, it evaluates, encourages, guides and supports activities related to Orthopaedics throughout the country in close collaboration with national and international bodies offering appropriate guidance, support and advice to avoid unwitting
duplication of effort and to encourage maximize use of resources.

Job Purpose
The Programme Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the Malawi Orthopaedic Association, overseeing and managing various aspects of our operations to ensure smooth coordination, effective communication, and successful implementation of our projects and initiatives. This role requires a dynamic and organized individual who can collaborate with different teams and stakeholders to achieve our goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Project Coordination
2. Facilitate effective communication within the association and externally
3. Event Management
4. Membership Engagement
5. Partnership and Collaboration
6. Financial Oversight
7. Reporting and Documentation
8. Team Support and Leadership
9. Strategic Planning

Qualifications and skills:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business Management/Administration, Business Studies, Project management.
2. A minimum of two (2) years of experience in project coordination, event management, or related roles.
3. Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
5. Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools.
6. Problem-solving mindset and adaptability to changing circumstances.
7. Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.

On 22 August, 2025, the Malawi Orthopaedic Association (MOA) held its Annual General Meeting in Mponela, Dowa. One of the actitivities at the meeting was the election of new office bearers, tasked to steer the MOA for the next three years.

The new Executive Committee of MOA consists of Maureen Sabawo (President), Martin Gumeni (Vice President), Elijah Mlinde (General Secretary), Smart Chigwenembe (Vice General Secretary), Charles Kaudza (Treasurer), and Robin Kajasiche (Public Relations Officer), Dr. Cornelius Mukuzunga (Committee Member), Edna Mwagomba Kalambo (Committee Member), and Maliwase Munthali Banda (Committee Member).

This new Executive Committee met at Dedza Pottery Lodge from 22 – 26 September 2025 to chart the way forward for MOA. They had a tight schedule where they had official handovers from the former Executive Committee, review the MOA Strategic Plan, develop an action plan, budget for 2025 – 26 financial year, and task allocation for different deliverables. To achieve the key performance indicators, the Executive Committee has put in place team leads for the following areas; Advocacy and Collaboration, Innovation and Technology, Research, Human Resource, Education and Training, Fundraising.

The meeting further appointed members into the following sub-committees; Membership and Welfare, Education and Research, Disciplinary and By-laws, Advocacy and Collaboration, and Fundraising Committees.
