FIFTH YEAR STUDENTS SOUTHERN REGION EDUCATIONAL VISIT🇲🇼

‎On Thursday, 13 November, Luanar Fifth-Year Veterinary Medicine students conducted an insightful educational visit to the Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) Headquarters in Blantyre.

‎During the session, students were introduced to Food Hygiene and Safety Standards, Chemical Residue Analysis, Food Safety Testing, and the important regulatory, certification, and quality assurance role played by MBS.
‎They also toured various laboratories, gaining a deeper appreciation of how MBS protects public health by ensuring that food and other essential products meet national and international safety standards.

‎On Friday, 14th November, the students proceeded to the National Artificial Insemination Centre in Mikolongwe, Chiradzulu. Here, they engaged in practical hands-on training, including semen collection, preparation, handling, and preservation, skills essential for livestock genetic improvement and enhanced productivity.

‎This two-day educational tour was impactful, strengthening students’ understanding of food safety, quality control, and reproductive biotechnology, all of which are crucial in advancing veterinary public health and livestock development in Malawi.

‎A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Levi, Dr. Monouza, Mr. Mulande, Mrs. Kazembe, Ms. Mercy Chirwa (Standards Officer for Food & Agriculture at MBS), Mr. Sukulu (Scientific Officer for Food Chemistry), and Mr. Phiri (Certification Officer) for their support and mentorship throughout the visits.

LUVESA STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

Meet Maureen Maxmos, from Machinga District. She is a first-year veterinary medicine student whose love for animals began in childhood when she cared for an injured stray dog, inspiring her to join the profession. Maureen balances school and personal life through planning and organization.

LUVESA MAN CRUSH MONDAY 💫

Meet Nafe Sautso Mwadula from Balaka District, a fifth-year veterinary medicine student inspired by the goal of helping animals and easing their suffering. He dreams of becoming a biomedical researcher to connect animal and human health.

Nafe balances school and personal life through good planning and time management. His best memory so far is winning the 2024 WVA/MSD Student Grant Scholarship, which motivated him to keep working hard. We had a truly special and impactful weekend as we conducted a free rabies vaccination campaign for cats and dogs in Mkwinda and the surrounding areas near Mitundu Secondary School. This initiative was part of our efforts to celebrate World Rabies Day, aimed at raising awareness about rabies prevention and promoting responsible pet ownership within our communities.

‎A heartfelt thank you to Veterinary Education Malawi , Paws and Claws Veterinary Clinic Malawi, Patience Pays Veterinary Store, Lilongwe Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (LSPCA), and to every student who took part in making this campaign a success.

🐾 WORLD RABIES DAY 2025 🐾🌍

Today, the Luanar Veterinary Students’ Association (LUVESA) proudly joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Rabies Day. This day reminds us of the urgent need to raise awareness, promote prevention, and work together towards a rabies-free future.

Rabies is not just another disease . It is a deadly viral infection that affects both animals and humans, claiming thousands of lives every year across the globe. Once clinical signs appear, rabies has no cure, making prevention the only solution. The virus is most commonly transmitted through bites or scratches from infected animals, especially dogs and cats.

The good news is that Rabies is 100% preventable! The simplest and most effective way to protect both humans and animals is through regular vaccination of pets. By vaccinating our dogs and cats, we break the chain of transmission, safeguard our families, and contribute to global efforts to eliminate rabies.

As future veterinarians, we believe that “Rabies Ends With Us".👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️ Together, through community action, responsible pet ownership, and widespread vaccination campaigns, we can create a safer and healthier world.

Rabies is dangerous !Vaccinate your pet today for a better tomorrow💉🐕🐈
