We are thrilled to share with you the moments from the blessing of our Hospital Chapel, which took place on February 15th, 2026! As a Christian Mission hospital, we believe that healing is not just physical, but also spiritual. We are committed to providing holistic care to our patients, and what better way to do so than by bringing the love of God to those who need it most?

The chapel was blessed by His Most Reverend Arch-Bishop George Tambala OCD, Catholic Diocese of Lilongwe. This sacred space is now a place where patients, families, and staff can come to pray, reflect, and find comfort in their time of need.

We are grateful to God for this milestone and to all who have made this possible. May this chapel continue to be a beacon of hope and peace, and may it bring glory to our Lord!

The Catholic-owned Our Lady of Mount Camel Mission Hospital, located in Kapiri, Mchinji District, has been honored with a prestigious 4-star rating, distinguishing it as one of Malawi’s best-performing hospitals in 2025.

The accolade was officially announced during the 2024–2025 Joint Annual Review meeting held in Lilongwe on 22 January 2026. Minister of Health, Honorable Madalitso Baloyi, commended the hospital for its outstanding contributions to key health indicators, particularly in maternal and child health, disease prevention, and health systems strengthening.

Hon. Baloyi emphasized the importance of the Joint Annual Review as a unified platform for evaluating nationwide health sector progress. “This review consolidates achievements across the sector, moving away from fragmented programmatic assessments,” he noted.

Dr. Peter Chamatambe, Senior Medical Officer at Our Lady of Mount Camel Mission Hospital, attributed the hospital’s success to the unwavering dedication of its management and staff. “This award is a result of our collective commitment to quality healthcare,” he said. “It inspires us to aim even higher—we are now working toward achieving a 5-star rating, as Mwaiwathu and Adventist hospitals have accomplished.”

The Joint Annual Review meeting brought together stakeholders from the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, the National AIDS Commission, international and local health partners, civil society organizations, and district council officials to assess and celebrate progress in Malawi’s health sector.

THE MINISTER OF HEALTH AND SANITATION HIGHLIGHTS PROGRESS AND CHALLENGES IN HEALTH SECTOR DURING THE INTEGRATED HEALTH SECTOR JOINT ANNUAL REVIEW

Lilongwe, Malawi - The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Hon. Madalitso Baloyi, MP has highlighted significant progress made in Malawi's healthcare system under the Health Sector Strategic Plan III (HSSP III) despite various challenges. Speaking at the 2024-2025 Joint Annual Review meeting in Lilongwe on January 22, 2026, Hon Baloyi noted improvements in key areas, including Maternal and Child Health, Disease Prevention, and Health Systems Strengthening.

The Hon. Minister highlighted challenges, including limited financial and human resources, climate-related disasters, and funding shortfalls, which have impacted service delivery and infrastructure development. To address these, the Ministry plans to equip facilities with essential medications and tools, invest in WASH infrastructure, and prioritize construction of new facilities in underserved areas.

“The Joint Annual Review therefore, is an important platform, as it consolidates progress across the Health Sector under one comprehensive review, moving away from fragmented programmatic assessments” Hon Minister. The meeting, themed "Accelerating Universal Health Coverage and Resilient Health Systems through Collaboration and Resource Optimization," aims to review progress and discuss strategies to strengthen partnerships and optimize resources.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of collaboration and thanked stakeholders, Development Partners, and Civil Society for their support. She declared the HSSP III Joint Annual Review meeting officially opened, calling for continued efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

During the opening session of the meeting Hon Baloyi also presented awards to the health facilities that have done well in terms of quality under the Stepwise Quality of Care (QoC) Program, which is a certification program that uses compliance to National QoC Standards to rate the level of quality provided at a health facility. Facilities are rated from 1 Star to 5 Stars after an external assessment. The more the Stars, the better the quality of services. Mwaiwathu Private Hospital and Blantyre Adventist Hospital have 5-star rating, while 6 facilities have a 4-star rating (Zomba Mental Hospital, LION Hospital (KCH), Nkhoma Mission Hospital, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hospital, St John of God Hospital – Lilongwe, St John of God Hospital – Mzuzu).
The Integrated Joint Annual Review meeting draws participation of Ministry of Health and Sanitation officials, National Aids Commission, International and local health partners, the civil organizations and district council officials.
