🌱 Tree Planting Season Has Begun 🌱

The tree planting season is now well underway. The first trees went into the ground around the hospital and in nearby villages last week.

This year, our target stands at 35,000 trees.

Trees are important! They protect soil and prevent erosion. They offer shade and fuel and support biodiversity and improve our resilience to climate change.

Thank you to Greenpop, , and many others for making these efforts possible.

🌳Let's make the future of Mulanje more green! 🌳

This month is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. πŸ’™πŸŽ—οΈ
At Mulanje Mission Hospital, you can be scanned, vaccinated, and treated!

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable forms of cancer if caught early.
Regular screening is crucial to detect changes in the cervix that could, if untreated, develop into cancer.

πŸ“– Books for a Brighter Future πŸ“–

As a hospital, we strongly believe in quality education and we remain committed to support the surrounding schools.

Last week, 8 primary schools surrounding the hospital received new school books. In total, 7,292 books reached the schools. The subjects include English, Chichewa, Mathematics and Science, together with teacher guides and syllabus copies.

*Aiming for the stars*

Today was a good day at Mulanje Mission Hospital! Over the past week, a national team from the Ministry of Health has been assessing every department and today we received fantastic (preliminary) news: we’ve moved from 2 to 3 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️

A special thank you to our Matron, Mrs. Tabu Gonani, who has worked tirelessly throughout this accreditation process. This achievement is the result of true teamwork across the whole hospital.

Well done, everyone! We’re so proud!✨

πŸ’š Fight against malaria update! πŸ’š

Our indoor residual spraying campaign is taking place right now and progressing well! This remains an effective tool in the fight against malaria.

Our 28 spray operators already covered about 30 villages. We are three weeks in with two weeks ahead of us.

The welcome in the communities stays very warm. Families open their homes and many villages wait with expectation for the team to arrive. The high acceptance rate shows how strong this programme now stands.

A sincere thank you to our spray operators who give their best each day for the health of Mulanje πŸ™

πŸ’™ A Big Thank You to Our Cervical Cancer Screening Team! πŸ’™

One week after World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day, we look back with gratitude. Thanks to the hard-working nurses and clinician in this photo, 57 women received VIA screening, many girls received the HPV vaccine, and countless community members were reached with important health messages.

Every screening, every vaccine, every conversation brings us one step closer to eliminating cervical cancer in Mulanje.

Fun fact Friday:
Our palliative care continues, despite the fuel crisis.

Annie Kaseka, nurse in charge of the department, travels on a motorcycle to the villages. These homevisits make a huge difference for patients who are not able to come to the hopsital.
Little fuel, big impact.

🌍 World Cervical Cancer Elimination Day – 17 November 2025 πŸ’™
Mulanje Mission Hospital joins the World Health Organization and partners across the globe in the fight to eliminate cervical cancer.

Cervical cancer can be cured if found early, and it can be prevented through vaccination. Join us this Monday for free cervical cancer screening (VIA) and free HPV vaccination for girls aged 9–18 at Khaya Health Post, starting from 8:00 am.

Elimination is within reach if we act now. Let’s make sure every girl is protected through HPV vaccination and every woman has access to prevention, screening, and care.
