*Government Orders Council Officers to Reside in Their Duty Districts*

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has directed all council officers to reside in the districts where their designated duty stations are located, citing growing concerns over absenteeism and inefficiency caused by long-distance commuting.

In a circular signed by Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development, Rev. Moses Owen Chimphepo, the Ministry observed that several officers were living in cities or districts other than their official duty stations, a situation that has led to late reporting for duty, increased absenteeism, and misuse of council resources such as fuel.

“The practice undermines efficiency, accountability, and the quality of public service delivery at the local council level,” reads part of the statement.

The directive, which takes immediate effect, requires all affected officers to relocate and take up residence within their duty districts, in line with applicable public service regulations
