The hidden health cost of daylight saving time.

I used to be a big supporter of it. But the more I learned about circadian rhythm and sleep, the less sense it made.

When we “spring forward,” we suddenly shift our internal clock by an hour. That disrupts your circadian rhythm, the system that regulates sleep, hormones, metabolism, and energy.

Research has shown that right after the time change there are increases in heart attacks, strokes, and car accidents.

Our biology runs on sunlight, not an artificial clock change from 100 years ago. Maybe it’s time we rethink it.

Make a healthy dinner with me.

Simple whole-food roast chicken with carrots and potatoes.

RECIPE ↓

Spatchcock a whole chicken by removing the backbone and laying it flat. Pat dry and salt generously.

Add peeled chopped carrots and whole small potatoes to a Dutch oven.

Mix softened grass-fed butter with garlic, thyme, oregano, and basil. Spread under the chicken skin and over the top.

Place the chicken on the vegetables and roast uncovered at 425°F for 45-50 minutes, until the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165°F.

Rest 5–10 minutes, then plate with the roasted vegetables.

Simple ingredients. Healthy dinner.
