Científicos japoneses subieron a la cima del Monte Fuji para analizar las nubes y lo que encontraron confirma una teoría: Las nubes están llenas de plástico.

El estudio halló hasta 14 piezas de microplásticos por litro de agua en las nubes. Pero lo más curioso no es que el plástico flote, sino lo que hace allá arriba.

Estas partículas funcionan como "semillas de hielo". Normalmente, el agua pura necesita mucho frío para congelarse en el cielo. Pero el plástico actúa como un imán que acelera la congelación, haciendo que las nubes se formen más rápido y carguen tormentas más intensas de lo normal.

Básicamente, hemos contaminado tanto que nuestra basura ahora está modificando el clima desde adentro. Ya no es una metáfora: literalmente estamos respirando y bebiendo lo que tiramos. La imagen es ilustrativa y pertenece a Universo Sorprendente.

Coming in at #4 of our biggest animal research breakthroughs of 2025…

Scientists at the University of Aberdeen and The University of Manchester discovered a new way to reverse lung scarring caused by severe asthma.

Using mice, they showed that reducing inflammation alone isn’t enough — specific proteins linked to tissue damage must also be blocked to reverse structural changes in the lungs.

This approach could benefit asthma patients and people with other serious diseases, including COPD and liver cirrhosis.

A ground breaking immunotherapy for aggressive leukaemia has just been approved for NHS use, produced at UCL. The treatment, called CAR T-cell therapy, reprogrammes a patient’s immune cells to recognise and destroy cancer. In clinical trials, 77% of patients went into remission, with many remaining cancer-free years later.

Carefully regulated animal studies involving mice, rats, dogs, and monkeys were essential to develop CAR T-cell therapy; helping researchers refine the therapy so it would work better and more safely in people.
