Cole is now rockin’ his fancy new custom brace and within just a few minutes he was walking like a champ. I truly feel like he is heading in the right direction. Cole has lived a life being surrounded by all kinds of people, all the time. These past several weeks of downtime and forced rest have been taking a toll on him. I can just see it in his eyes. But yesterday on the way home from his brace fitting we stopped at one of our favorite pet stores to grab a little treat for being such a good boy. As we were walking in I saw his tail start wagging harder, his ears were perked up, and there was a profound sparkle in his eyes. He was back to the eager boy that loves to meet everyone he comes across and my heart was so full. He has a long road of recovery, physical and hydro therapy sessions, cold laser treatments, and slow, patient progress, but I’ve never been more hopeful of the path we are headed. In my gut, I have to give this route a try (although just as costly) because of what I saw in him yesterday. He was himself again; my happy boy. He won’t be working full-time, but he can remain working somewhat, with his fancy new stroller, lifting harnesses, and snuggles from friends. I truly think the power of touch and love from his school kids and veterans will bring his superpowers back to full strength. If anything, it will show the students that superhero’s get boo-boo’s, too, but we can all bounce back from struggles that come our way. 🤞🤟
