🕊 En memoria del Dr. René Alfredo Cano Hidalgo

El Encuentro Interinstitucional de Casos Clínicos en Oftalmología (EICCO) se une al profundo pesar por el fallecimiento del Dr. René Alfredo Cano Hidalgo, reconocido retinólogo.

El Dr. Cano fue, en diversas ediciones, ponente magistral en EICCO y uno de los primeros profesores en creer en este proyecto desde su nacimiento quien sin duda apoyó a EICCO desde el inicio.

Su apoyo incondicional, entusiasmo docente y calidad humana marcaron el camino de generaciones de oftalmólogos y consolidaron el espíritu académico que distingue a este encuentro.

Su legado permanecerá en cada alumno, colega y foro donde compartió su conocimiento.
Con gratitud y respeto, honramos su memoria.

🔎 Looking back at the EURETINA Lecture: At , Prof. Ursula Schmidt-Erfurth (Medical University of Vienna) explored how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the management of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Her lecture highlighted how AI-powered OCT image analysis is now enabling:

Precise fluid characterisation in neovascular AMD

Prediction of geographic atrophy progression

Early detection of conversion to advanced AMD

New functional outcome measures for trials and clinical care

She also presented AI-based tools already available to clinicians and researchers, showing how technology is bridging science and practice.

New Deep-learning Software Sets Foundation for MGD Biomarker Development
A recent analysis of a large image database allows researchers to establish clinically useful anatomic landmarks of health and disease that might appear on next-generation meibographers.

The interactive application, called OASIS (Ophthalmic Segmentation and Analysis Software), combines deep learning-based eyelid and gland segmentation, manual editing tools and quantitative metric generation. A study published recently in Translational Vision Science & Technology determined that the software could quantitatively analyze MGD 87% quicker than manual analysis by human graders.
