INTRA-GASTRIC BALLOON

The intra-gastric balloon is a treatment for temporary weight loss, which aims to provide satiety by eating less food, in combination with a restrictive diet.

This is NOT a surgical procedure. It is performed under sedation in an endoscopy room. This procedure is recommended for people with LOW BMI (less than 30), who have between 30-40 lbs to loose. It is also recommended as a preliminary treatment to undergo bypass surgery on patients with extremely high BMI, and who need to loose weight fast in order to reduce surgical risk.

Depending on the brand of the gastric balloon, the device can be left inside the patient's body from 6 to 12 months (per manufacturer's recommendation), time after which the implant should be removed.
