For guys that train jiu jitsu and have been training, whether consistent or not, they know the complexity of the art and how difficult and expensive, the journey is to obtain and retain knowledge. Your instructors already went down that road and now they are providing you the same opportunity. Don't abuse or take advantage of gyms or martial arts academies. Give back and pay your dues. Support their movement, pay for the classes, pay the drop-in fees if visiting. Don't ask if you can train for free. It's the biggest disrespect and you should feel embarrassed of yourself. Would you ask the restaurant, next time you are out, if this meal can be free? Or at the checkout when buying groceries, if they can just give you your groceries free this time? Or your landlord, if this month's rent can be free? Obviously not. Now if you have been an active paying student or customer and you have a friend who you have been trying to convince to try jiu-jitsu. And you tell the coach I have this friend who has never tried jiu-jitsu and would like to try a class to see how it goes, that's fine. It can be difficult to convince the world why they need jiu-jitsu. Plus you are out there actively trying to bring in new students and recruits to spread the love of jiu-jitsu, that fine. But if you already know what jiu-jitsu is, you know what you need to be paying for. So...pay your drop in fees, pay your monthly memberships, buy merchandise, pay for private sessions, and keep contributing to a better, healthier, safer, community. It's better than contributing to bars, clubs, alcohol, and so many other detrimental things to society.....
