A Patient’s Story

After bariatric surgery I expected to lose weight. I knew my body was going to change, clothes would get bigger, and I'd be healthier overall. But I didn't realize all the non-scale benefits I'd experience so soon. I contemplated having bariatric surgery for almost 2 years before I finally made the decision to have the procedure. Now that I've had it done I wish you could go back and yell at my old self. I had no valid reason not to get it done I just never took the first step. Instead I basically choose to waste so much of my life living restricted. I lost 30 lb in the first 30 days which feels amazing. Surprisingly that wasn't even the best thing I've experienced after surgery. There's some things that come with being overweight that are done so often they become your norm. That is until you stop doing them.

I no longer reach for a pillow or something to put in front of my stomach as soon as I sit down in front of people.

I don't hurt my wrists by attempting to carry 50 bags of groceries inside the house because I'm too lazy to take a second trip to the car.

I don't have to sit down and rest for a few seconds because I got tired from simply taking a shower.
