We begin tomorrow, 40 days of practice, of cultivating a daily ritual of prayer to anchor ourselves in the Divine, through sound.

When you worship what is limited, you become limited
When you worship the Divine, you become Divine.
Pujya Swami Dayananda

Still time to join! Msg if you are feeling the call ✨

Join us on a 40 day sādhanā to learn the mesmerizing Hanuman Chālisā. Beginning in March, carrying us through to his birth/appearance day on Apirl 12th 2025.

The intention is to cultivate a daily practice of prayer to anchor ourselves to the Divine, through sound. We will learn together the chālisā, verse by verse, first spoken than sung to a melody. Each day commiting one verse to heart, slowly building our connection and bhāva to love itself.

There will be 2 live and recorded classes a week, so you can practice with me, call and response, and then on your own (or with the recording), until we meet again. It will only require about 20-30 mins/day plus the live/recorded practices.

What is special is the connection we will build learning together in community a prayer that is known worldwide, and chanted daily. It will stay with you and carry you for lifetimes.

I will also share a weekly story of Hanuman.

We will be learning the melody by Nina Rao that she sings with KD, from her album Ocean of Ram.

“It’s inconceivable to us the devotion that Hanuman has for Ram. He has no ego. He does all he can to serve Ram, but never sees himself as the doer. He lives only to serve love. Imagine that. We spend nearly all of our time thinking. Yet here is Hanuman with no thoughts. Just guided by his love for Ram. He knows sometimes they appear separate, but he also knows they are one.” Krishna Das

"In Hindu symbolism, a monkey signifies the human mind, which is ever restless and never still. This monkey mind happens to be the only thing over which we can have absolute control. We cannot control the world around us, nor can we choose our life, but we can choose how we respond to it.
Hanuman attains mastery over his mind ad therefor over his body. Hanuman teaches us that humility and selflessness are the true measures of knowledge." Vanamali

The Festival of Lights known as Dīvali or Dīpavali begins tomorrow November 10th thru November 14th.

During these 5 days, lamps and lights at lit in homes to call in the light and qualities of light like; prosperity, abundance, beauty, auspiciousness and illumination or the highest light- wisdom.

“This festival celebrates the illumination of human being to the level of humanity and from humanity to divinity. It is a battle between our dark and bright tendencies, choices and inclinations.”

This feels so potent right now.

During these 5 days it’s believed that cosmic doorways open to let in this light, to illumine our hearts and minds and lift the human spirit✨

If you feel the call to prayer, to peace, to connection, we will hold ceremony this Sunday November 12th. This is said to be the darkest dark moon night of the year and the night to call in the effulgence of Lakshmi, or rather to awaken her qualities within and around us ✨

Keep a candle lit in all your windows to invite the qualities of Lakshmi into your home and heart and chant her mantra daily during the 5 days:

Om Maha Lakshmyai Namaha

षन्धि sandhi - the space between -
Every afternoon as I arrive home, I am met with this beautiful vision. I am always captured by it. There is a pause to the mental chatter, an inner stilling.. a quieting.
*
There is a word in Sanskrit that has been showing up for me lately, sandhi. From my limited understanding it signifies that transition point between seasons, between day and night, between thoughts, between inhale and exhale….
*
It can also be considered as the merging point, the junction point or the sacred pause.
*
I like to think of it as the moment when the inhale breath is suspended before the exhale, like when you jump on a trampoline. That moment of pause that happens after you jump and reach your highest trajectory and just before you begin the decent, there’s a momentary pause in midair and also after you land and before you press off again.
*
My favorite is the moment you witness something miraculous in nature, a close encounter with a wild animal or a double rainbow and there is this quick inhale and a pause (that wow moment, that can often feel eternal), before you relax and let the breath out.
*
In Sanskrit study it can refer to how the letters combine. Often, there’s a small change in a word ending so that it links up effortlessly with the following word, to create flow for recitation and chanting (this is just a simplified example, this grammatical rule is much more complex).
*
In the practice of yoga asana (yogāsana), it’s this in between moment that we are working towards that allows us to arrive at an inner stilling. I experience it when the breath is flowing seamlessly, when the end of the inhale merges with the beginning of the exhale and vice versa. When we find our way into an Asana, and relax into that moment of perfect balance between effort and ease, which allows the mind to relax and to take a seat within the heart.
*
Its the moment when the flow of prāṇa (the breath rhythm) in the iḍā and piṅgalā nāḍis (between the two nostrils) comes into perfect balance and consciousness slips into the central channel, suṣhumnā. This phenomenon happens all throughout the day, however, we are often too distracted to notice. (Cont’d👇)

✨Bringing Yoga to Life✨

I love nothing more than deep diving into the practices of Yoga. Cultivating a daily practice, of slowing down, leaning in, listening, breathing and stretching out into this magnificent form (body/space suit), that we are in. Finding our edges and moving beyond them- what was once impossible becomes possible and our perspective opens, our hearts open and we begin to reach again for the stars.

We begin to marvel once more at both our infinite and finite nature which reminds us that we are capable of anything and everything if we can stay open and present to the moment. The only thing limiting our greatness is our thoughts.

What if everyday we woke up knowing that everything was possible? What if we woke everyday and asked ourselves what would be the most extraordinary thing I could do today and we went out and did it without reservation?

This is Yoga. Any moment of presence is Yoga…for it is only when we are fully present that we are in full awareness of our infinite nature, we are everywhere and in everything, as expansive as the sky. In this state we forget all the ways that we doubt and play small. When we stretch out past our perceived limits, beyond the fear of falling - we build inner strength, confidence and trust. Than we spend more time contemplating our greatness, our light and less time focusing on our shortcomings.

Beginning March 1st, we will practice together In this beautiful open air studio in Todos Santos. Exploring through postures, breath, the subtle body, mythology, story, scripts, mudra, mantra and sound, how to open our minds and our hearts to allow the light to sparkle through… to lift our thoughts so we can lift our selves and each other. To find what makes us come alive and to cultivate the inner resources and determination to go out and do it.

There are still a few In-person spots available and all classes will be recorded for virtual attendance.

No matter who we are or how long we have been entrenched in self-defeating behaviors, through daily Yoga practice we can become present to our own fundamental goodness and the goodness of others.

Rediscovering who we really are at our core opens the way to experiencing our most basic level of connection with others. This connectedness lies at the heart of the practice called Yoga.

Living in a unitive state is not an esoteric concept, and it is not an elusive higher realm that only very clever people can aspire to. It is the opening of the ❤️ to feel tenderness, joy and sorrow without shutting down. It is the opening of the mind to an awareness that encompasses rather than excludes. It is the startling and immediate recognition of our basic sameness.

It is a homecoming with and in the body for it is only here that we can do all these things.

The beauty of committing to daily practice with community is we have the support of many, we make a silent sacred vow to show up for each other which ultimately means showing up for ourselves.

When we consider the small and profound gifts of showing up each and everyday to give our inner and outer world attention- well, they are limitless. ~Janet Stone

Join us (myself and guest teacher and songstress Sandra Orellana Sears]) for a daily deep dive into the practices of yoga, breath, postures and sound- to experience freedom and spaciousness in your body through movement, breath, postures, and an intro to voice cultivation and expression through toning and sounding.
We will explore our natural breath, and breathing patterns to gain insight into our inner world, exploring the diaphragms, the vayus, breath repatterining and expanding the breath and cultivating a daily breath practice 💨
